Fear of failing can hold us back from taking the first step. How can we turn it around so that the fear fuels us, rather than holding us back?

Remember, fear of failure just means that this decision to quit smoking is important to you. If you were not worried about failing, you would probably never even try to quit in the first place.

Take your quit one step at a time, or one craving at a time, or one day at a time. Who knows, by the time you get to day 3, week 3 or month 3, you may be more confident than you expected.

The only people who fail are the ones who never try at all.

    Good luck everyone!

Please share if you have had any fears going into a quit and how you overcame them.

    Hi jenna lee,

I couldn't agree with you more when you said that the only ones who fail are those who don't try at all.

I think we are all scared when we first try to quit, because we know in our hearts how hard it is going to be.  This is one tough addiction to beat.  But I told myself that I didn't want to be an old dinosaur, that I wanted to get with the program and become a non-smoker.  I kept looking around and saying, "He doesn't smoke, she doesn't smoke, and aren't they great?"  And I wanted to join the majority.  So I stuck with it.  And am I ever glad I did.  It was so worth the struggles.

Like I always say when I talk about quitting, a little bit of pain for a lifetime of gain!

    Hi Jenna lee

    That is a good Point.

Personally, I still have fear to fail if I get too angry or too happy, if I had o no Nrt.
Recently, I had a stressful situation, and the first though was to by a pack, but not!! Instead, I spoke to my self in what I feel in that moment, and cool down with my Nrt, and say I do not deserve to fail again, that situation can not control me! It was so powerful, like I never quit! i guess I was a bit down in Confidence.

What I am sure is what I want? to be free of Smoking forever.

I am Free, not even a though about smoke!

I am not trying again and again and so....

I think the fear just tells us how addicted we think we are.  It sort of confirms our addiction.  I also think the more I try and fail, the worse the fear gets, which has bit me in the butt many times.  I just failed after months, and I never want to be so fearful of quitting again, so tomorrow I'm back on NRT gum and burning off the stress I need to quit.  I'm not entering into it as fearful though, just a back to basics, as I only recently relapsed fully, so my habit of being smoke free is still within my grasp.
