Hi. I also am new today. I decided to improve my health a couple of weeks ago, yes probably thinking that i could maybe negate the effects even while smoking. But we can't really fool ourselves can we?  I have come to actually WANT  to quit due to my onset of COPD. So I started eating healthier, and am losing weight. I know that i can still eat even more healthy whole foods and still not gain while quitting smoking. While wanting to eat better,  (basically the mediterranean diet) I also tried a lung detox for smokers (which is actually for after smokers quit) Started a week ago yesterday, and yesterday I just decided to put off that first cigarette and did so for two hours. Deep breathing, frozen fruit, even a very healthy carrot cake that i made and eating it  frozen takes time. The lung detox is on line (tumeric onions and ginger) and it must help with the cravings. I only had 3 cigarettes yesterday (0.5 X 6)  Have you or any other readers here tried this detox and how did it work for you? This morning my first two puffs made be lightheaded.  I guess it was a nicotine rush, which i gather means most of the nicotine and toxins are already out of my system.  I have made my quit date for Nov. 15th , 9 days from now  figuring that if i stay on this track it might go easier.  I wish you and all the others good luck with their fight against nicotine.  Now i will put off an urge by trying to figure out how i get to others comments.

    Hello cec57 and shazzan,

Congratulations to both of you for setting your quit dates and making adjustments to a healthier lifestyle, and welcome, both of you to the community forums!

Cec57-there is a lot of benefit to having peer support such as on this forum. It is good to hear you have already been thinking of things you can do to help quit, such as reading, and being in contact with those who have quit/are quitting smoking.

As for your question about looking for support from quit coaches here, did you have any specific concerns or questions you would like to discuss or address? If you would like to have an in depth discussion about anything quit smoking related, feel free to give us a call at 1 877 513 5333, we would be happy to help you cec57! Again, Congrats on taking your first steps forward in leading a smoke-free life!

Shazzan-the healthy lifestyle changes you are making seem great! You list some awesome strategies for dealing with cravings (deep breathing, frozen fruit). However, I have not heard of this "lung detox" you mentioned, but if you have any concerns about it, I suggest you check it out with your doctor. You seem to be well prepared/ready for this quit, and thank you for your positive reinforcement on this forum thus far! Again, if you would like additional support in quitting smoking, feel free to call us at 1 877 513 5333.

Hi cec57 and shazzan, and welcome to the forum.

You have come to a great resource and community.  Take a look around, read everything you can, share your struggles and your successes.

The quit coaches are a great resource and full of knowledge.  They're also great to just talk to.  I know they 'talked me down' when I was completely struggling the first couple of weeks.

    Cheers,

    E

    Hi Steven

Thanks for your words of encouragement and your wisdom. I agree that people should consult their doctors if on medications  or have health issues. I also agree that everyone's bodies are not the same. As they once said you are what you eat. So I do encourage non-smokers and especially smokers to be on a healthy whole food diet, not junk, sugars and loads of starches. Moderation and variety are the spice of life, and to weight loss too. Even a few pounds added are healthier than how smoking ravages your body. Even if you use an NRT it is healthier by far than smoking, but a good diet is still important for moods, antioxidants and yes even cravings. We live in the computer age... use it to your advantage and just ask a question to google. (does google talk back yet?)  lol... i just might ask!
