    Hi Everyone,

Today, on the news and other media there is quite a bit of talk about mental health.  Mental health effects every aspect of our life, our energy, our relationships, our work and goals; it is all encompassing. Add quitting smoking and that can really effect how we are feeling.

How is your mental health today? What do you do when you become overwhelmed? What helps you find balance?

It can help to share as they are doing in the media today. But every day, Smokers’ Helpline is available for you to share and to get help and give help too.

Bell's Let's Talk day is a good day to get started...
    Wishing you well,
    Lillian

    Hi Lillian,

You are absolutely right.  Quitting smoking doesn't just affect us physically.  It also affects us mentally.  It can cause a lot of stress and anxiety.  And change is difficult for a lot of people, myself included.  So we go through an awful lot when we quit.

When I feel overwhelmed, I reach out to my friends and family.  I find it really helps to talk things out.  It is so important to be able to express yourself, and to have someone really listen.

When I first quit, I found this site extremely helpful, because I knew that we were all going through the same things, and that we all got each other.  I find a little understanding can go a long way.  That is why I am such an active poster on this site.  I feel a real need to give back, to pay it forward.  If I can help someone get through even one bad moment, then all of the effort is worthwhile.

    Hi Lillian and Treepeo,

So true.  I am doing good but at times I feel sad and depressed.  What helps me to get out of my depression are to do things such as reading, knitting, talking to friends and posting quotes on this site. I am considering starting swimming on February 13.  I find this site very helpful.

    Hello Everyone,

Brieffree and Treepeo, so great to hear that visiting this community has helped with your self-reflection.  And in turn be a support to others.

We hope being here serves that purpose for many of you whereby you feel better for reaching out.  We don't want anyone to feel isolated and/or depressed on their quit journey.

Clepage, sounds like swimming is going to be just what you need- let us know how it goes.

Maybe there are other things that give you balance?  Please do share.  Supporting one another with good mental health is key.

    Have a wonderful week ahead!

    Marianne

    Hi dedi,

Congratulations on your 33 smoke free days.  That is amazing!

I know it can be hard at times.  This addiction just does not want to let us go.  But hang in there.  You are doing great, and each day you stay smoke free will make things get easier for you.

Maybe give yourself a little treat to boost your spirits.  Make sure you celebrate what you have accomplished.  You should be really proud of yourself, dedi.  You are getting the job done!
