Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but anyways. I'm Dave, 41 years old and I've decided it's time to quit for good after many failed attempts. I hope this group can help make this attempt my last one. Happy new year and I wish all of you good luck with quitting and, best wishes.

    Hi dave41,

Quitting smoking is a great way to start the New Year.

Like so many of us, you have tried to quit in the past, but it didn't stick.  That's okay.  Maybe you can learn from your previous attempts.  Try to think about what you can do differently when the going gets tough.  Drink lots of water, and do things to distract yourself.  And if a bad craving hits, wait 10 minutes and try to breathe through it.  And then wait another 10 minutes, and so on until it passes.  It's hard, but it's doable.  And so worth the effort.

Good luck, dave41.  Please keep posting so we can help you through this process.

Its a GREAT place to start, dave41 - and welcome to SHL.ca.
Congrats on your quit...we are here to support you every step of the way.
treepeo and cec57 have already posted some great strategies, such as figuring out what you liked best from past attempts, and reading some of our other members posts to see if something stands out that you would like to include in this upcoming attempt.
Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have.
Happy New Year and New start, dave41!

    Hello
This is my 3rd attempt in the past twelve months, i feel more confident this time around as ive been smoke free since dec 7 2018.   The patch is working for me.  I had to change a few habits and things that would trigger smoking.   Good luck to you all!

    Good luck, Dave!

This goes beyond luck, that said; when it comes to quitting smoking, you are the one who has the ultimate power to make it happen, regardless of what goes on in the world around you. You've decided to quit for good, and the rest is just following through on that choice, using  your skills and support, and staying true to yourself.

Live2019, congrats to you on close to a whole month smoke-free! Glad that you are doing so well with the patch and changing the old habits!

Cec57, thanks for chiming in as well. Keep thinking those positive thoughts!

    Regards,
    Efram
