Hi, I think I gone to fast. My stop date was January 15th, well that was blown and I feel like I failed. So now I need some help. What I had done is forty-eight hours before my quit date I smoke only 2 cigarettes and then I went to work and bam, starting again. Non smoking co-workers that knew I was trying did not help my mind when they asked wasn't this your quit date. Then my husband that quit co turkey 14 years ago doesn't seem to understand that it is hard for me and anytime he mentions me smoking or trying to quit I get upset and then give up. So tired of everyone, hoping to get support from people that don't know me. I know friends and family want to help and support but I take it the wrong way I guess. The hrt choices don't work for me, I feel that I failed my stop date but I am not finished. I will try again and again if necessary. Hoping that there are others feeling the same way and can understand.

I hear you!  I don’t understand either why it seems so challenging for me and easier for others but I’ll never know.  I do keep learning new things, though.

    Hi cglp,

It can be challenging, but I can hear how motivated you are. You're not giving up and are willing to try again.

Everyone is different in the type of support they need. Would it help to speak with your family or co-workers and let them know what you need? Even if that means not asking about it and letting you bring up your quit if you want too?

Know that we will always be here to listen and support you.

Look forward to hearing about your journey.

cglp, don't forget you are doing this for you!! Smoking can result in serious health damages in many ways including, bad gums and teeths, heart attack, cancer, stroke, high BP, etc.  Its damaging to our wallets, and family relationship as well. Moreover, it's a serious addiction, which needs to be kicked from our life.  Good luck!! Hang in there!! Never give up quitting.

i hear your pain. i quit on saturday the 13th due to me getting out of icu hospital stay due to multiple blood clots on my lungs. i dont tell anyone im quitting because they always ask soooo.....its annoying and makes you crave more. i dont call it will power i call it wont power! i always start on a monday for me and ive tried numerous times with great intentions. heard the same thing from my husband when he quit cold turkey. he doesnt remember how horrendous living with him was for 2 weeks. all i can say is, look at the cigarette and hate it, scream and swear at it and destroy it. sounds corny but be mad at it because that cigarette controls your whole life. its sucking your money, it stinks and its killing you. if you need help patch, meds, anything do it. its so worth it!! get out of the dark side and come join me on the bright side.....Ruth

Thanks ruthst, I think I finally found someone who understands what I am going through. Your message has helped me, tell myself I am doing this for myself and no one else. I greatly appreciate your comment.

    Hi cglp,

May offer a different perspective for you? I can say that for myself, this addiction has never been black and white. When I think back over my story of how I became hooked on cigs, it was a progressive process. I have found it beneficial to look at quitting as a process too. If quitting were as easy as flipping an off switch, the tobacco companies would already be bankrupt. The mere fact that you are sharing your struggles, and are still engaging people who want to help in spite of falling short of your original intention shows you have not failed. Maybe this could be viewed instead as an opportunity to learn more about what does and doesn't work for you? Some people can just wake up one day and say "I quit" and never light up again. I'm not one of those people. I have to strategize, and make a plan, and I have to be open to the idea of the plan constantly needing little tweaks, because I didn't become the smoker I am today overnight. I hope you keep trying. As was said in an earlier post, we can see your motivation. Thank you for your honesty about your struggle, I sincerely appreciate it.

    Hi Cglp,

I hear you!  And I totally agree with what Djdunphy said about not becoming a smoker overnight.  It took time to become a smoker, and it will take time to become a non-smoker.

Please don't feel like a failure.  You are not a failure, YOU ARE A WINNER!!!  Quitting is a daunting task, and it takes courage to even try.  So I applaud you for your efforts!

Hang in there, Cglp, you can do this.   And you are worth it.  Make a change for the better.  You won't regret it.
