    Hello,

I have been smoke free for two years but after falling on some hard times I started smoking again. Now I am vaping non-stop and want to quit. It's very hard to manage and I don't have the money to spend on it.

Can anyone give me some pointers?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I am trying to quit as well, after smoking for over 40 years.   I could not meet the challenge of cold turkey and am using the patch.   There are a few ways to get the patch at  no cost to get you started.   I understand the expense and realize just how much smoking was pressuring my finances.   I have found this site very helpful as well, with the forums and seeing others battling and succeeding.
    Best of Luck

    Hi Combined45
15 days quit here. Using patches.
I did read the Allen Carr book to get psychological inspiration.
I like the fact it focuses on the benefits of quitting smoking, vs. blaming the smoker.
Another very important aspect of this book is that it tackles all the aspects we think we may "miss'' because of quitting smoking,  by demonstrating that what we think we will miss, is actually an illusion.

Example: If I quit smoking, I will miss the fact that the cigarette destress me.
It is actually an illusion. Yes, the cigarette may make me feel relaxed, but only for a very short time...and a few minutes later I already need more cigarettes.

Typical scenario for me: before a job interview, I would make sure that I do have a hidden place and 1 hour free time, to chain-smoke 3 or 4 cigarettes, thinking it would make me relaxed and more successful for my job interview. It is an illusion.
    Actually it makes it worse!
    - Smoking 4 cigarettes before a job interview is not going to make it more pleasant or easier.
    - It will create an even greater amount of stress because I will need to make sure I find the time, the place to smoke, mint candies to freshen up my breath, an access to washroom to wash my hands to remove the stench...
    - It does make me feel bad to be so addicted. It diminishes my self esteem and confidence, whereas the image I want to show during the interview is that I am a poised person...

That is the type of psychological impact this book is explaining.
All the best in your journey!

Thank you both for your replies.

I got hypnotized and I am still having cravings, etc.

I really love the way you have explained the esteem issues around the addiction. It really resonates with me. I'm a few days behind you yannick and you are inspiring my own clarity. As time passes, I can see the power of this 'lie' that is addiction. You are right! It won't help to have a smoke. I do fall into self blame, guilt and shame at times and get down on myself for having the addiction at all, and for the things it made me do (like hide my smoking). I have to admit that with each day, I am getting a bit more clarity - bit by bit - and the desire to be more powerful than the substance.
