How on earth can you kick these cravings when literally everyone in your life smokes? My fiance, my parents, my grandparents, my friends, my siblings. The only 2 people in my life that don't smoke are 10 yrs and 7 weeks old. I need to go somewhere for a few days where these cravings can subside but I have nowhere I can go that's smoke free! I don't know what to do anymore, I need to quit for my sons health and for breastfeeding but I'll only make it a day before I slip again! Has anyone else dealt with something similar? How did you get through it?

    Hi yukii

You are not Alone, all you feel is  normal, just Part of the quit! I quit more than 3 years ago and still crave.

    Distract yourself
    Drink a lot water
    Do something else

    You can do it!

    Hi Yukii,

As Brieffree mentioned you are not alone in this. Being around other smokers can be a challenge for many people who quit.

I know some helpful tips have been mentioned in this post. Also, I think you'll find a lot of helpful information as you browse through the website and read other posts, if you're interested.

We do have Quit Coaches available 7 days a week if you would like to call in for some extra support and help with planning. The number is 1-877-513-5333.

Congratulations on quitting! I know it isn't always easy but just take it one day at a time and know that we are all here for you.

Perhaps pick up the book "Easyway" by Allen Carr.  You even get to smoke while reading it.  It give a lot of advice about being around others who continue to smoke.  Helped me, and my best friend immensely.  I figure anything to help us quit- it could work.  Stay strong!!!!

    Hello everyone!

Thanks for the recommendation, Bondray! Many people choose to refer to books for support which is great! Unfortunately, there isn't an abundance of research to support their efficacy as of yet! In addition to books, we also recommend looking into evidence based quit aids like nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) or prescription medications! You can always refer to your doctor or pharmacist for more information!

    Stay strong!

Being around smokers is tough, especially early in a quit.  Short-term 'hiding' from smokers is a great tactic, however is not realistic as a long-term strategy.  The sad reality is that smokers are all around us.  You need to change your mental perspective.  Don't envy a smoker, sympathize for them, for the smoker wishes to be quit.  The smoker wants to be you!

    Stay proud.
