    Fell off the quit wagon again. Some days I wonder if I'll ever manage to beat this addiction.

    Good afternoon DaddyB, 

    Not giving up on trying to quit smoking is key. Each attempt you make is a learning opportunity for your next attempt.

    Have anyone experienced the feeling of having tried everything and what did you do differently when you tried again?

    Hi Daddy B,

    I'm sorry to hear you started smoking again, but I'm not surprised.  This addiction is really, really hard to beat.  Try not to be too discouraged.  The important thing is not to give up.  Keep trying.  Like Valerie said, you can use this failed attempt as a learning experience.  Think about what was happening when you gave in.  Was it a bad craving?  Was it stress?  If you are mindful of what caused you to relapse, you can make plans ahead of time to deal with it differently the next time.

    Keep your chin up, Daddy B.  You can do this.  Be more stubborn than your addiction.

    Hello I know your challenge...i have stopped in the past for 3 to 5 months and relapsed back on to smokes again...

    Hi Daddy

    Do not be so hard on you, those feelings are pretty normal, is your Body Healing! Remember: We were smokers for many years. Sure you will have some cravings, your brain is testing you!

    Try to Drink water when you feel like that.
    Distract from that moment and it will pass!
    Speak to someone about it, it helps a lot.
    Do something around to get rid off that moment.
    Have fun doing it!

    We are beating these habit.

    Day by day.

    Daddy B relapses are common and part of the quit. Just keep trying and never give up quitting.  I have been through your path many times and after many attempts I finally got it figured out.  Key is never a puff again.  FYI, I joined this site and started my quit journey in 2011, and I am finally closer to 2 years of quit this October. :)   The more and more quit attempts you have more and more you learn from and it you will be ready more and more to beat this nasty addiction out of your life.  Smoking is a nasty addiction and is a bad habit, so kick it out of your life for good!

    Thank you to all of the people that responded to my post. I have finally gotten over beating myself up about my failure to quit and have set my sights on a new quit date in August. 

    Thank you all again, and perhaps I will be better prepared this time around :)

    I know l just started but what help for me is l talk to myself, and you know the saying is "hope you don't reply to yourself ". Well guess what I DO. Stupid enough it help me. I will not let the smoking win anymore. Not my first time trying, and the only thing l can say to you right now is keep trying, you will win this one day.

    daddyb - congratulations on setting a new quit date! If 'beating yourself up' over relapsing what not motivating for you, it was good to let it go...

    Everyone else, your insight is much appreciated. Slips and relapses are always part of the quit process. If we use them as learning opportunities and change what we do differently next time, we are only increasing our chances of success.
