I would like to give a shout out to all those who are not giving up on quitting, but are ready to engage in another quit attempt.

Taking a defeat as a learning opportunity and to start over takes a lot of courage, determination and persistence.

Kudos for continuing to engage in this challenge!

    Wishing you the best!

I have had quite a lot of me attempting to quit smoking and the community has been helpful in each of them but have always fell when the cravings got real bad. I felt like i was weak and almost hopeless that i would never quit. i have never wanted to give up and i started a talk with my NP then after all my attempts trying all the NRT i talked to the pharmacist and talking i told him i usually cave in when the cravings hit while am quitting and talked about my other quits and at the end he suggested champix as will help the craving become less and dont need to experience the cravings before i use NRT to stop it so i started on sunday and i made a quit date for day 5 on the champix and i really was doubting i could do it but i set my quit date on here and on day 4 at night i threw everything out in the garbage and take it outside like he asked me to do and on day 5 i woke up and never really was bothered by cravings and went about my day. so far today is day 2 and at the end of that that am smoke free. I have not posted anything as i have posted each of my attempts and not long after i fall off my quit. I felt embarrased and didnt want to post anything till was past the 3 days that have always gotten to and fell of as was waiting till a week smoke free so i knew i was more succesful but kept coming and reading the posts and that helped quite a bit. i have signed up for the text help and i have used it quite a bit and has helped me a lot. I didnt quit quitting but each time i learned different things and helped me narrow down what really is my fall down and with the NP and pharmacist we were able to narrow down what is the best to help me succeed and i feel like am doing great and motivated. It doesnt matter how many times you quit you can learn things about your quit and help you narrow things down so you and your help can see what is the best that will help you be successful in your quit. Never quit quitting

    hello tiny2018,

thank you very much for sharing how the failures affected you. It can take an emotional toll and make the quitting more daunting. It's great how determined you are. I like how you were able to learn from your past failures and reach out to your healthcare team and this community for support.

I am glad that the Champix is working for you.

Stay motivated! Believe you can do it!

    Hi tiny2018,

You should never be ashamed for being human.  Quitting is hard, and it is a rare person who can quit successfully on the first attempt.

On the other hand, you should be extremely proud of yourself for not giving up and continuing to try to quit.  You have learned from past experiences, you reached out and got advice from people you could trust, and you started on Champix.  And you are committed to becoming a non-smoker.  Good for you, tiny2018!  You are on your way to getting it done.

I will send positive energy your way, tiny2018.  Believe in yourself.  You really can overcome this addiction, and it will be so worth it!

There you go elke, this is the real mantra for quitting any addiction or to overcome all challenges to see glory. The real consistency in life is being inconsistent, like treepeo is saying we are all humans.  We all need to realize and accept relapses are the norm and get back on our path to quitting forever. :)

There is no failure, just a lot of little learning lessons!  It's hard to be a perfect non smoker because we're not perfect, we're people.  The only consistency is trying again, and doing it for you.  Thank you for reaching out this warm re-welcome, lol!!!

This is my favorite thread of the day (so far!). So much wisdom gained from experience!

Ocean, you nailed it. We can drop that word "failure" from the vocabulary when it comes to quitting -- maybe in lots of other areas of life as well! There is no way to fail as long as one doesn't give up! It's all learning, otherwise.

Or as tiny2018 put it, a way to "narrow down" what's working and what still needs tweaking.

Treepeo, nice reminder to be proud of our work in making changes for the better. Thank you.

The tip from Jeyan that slips and relapses are normal too -- from this perspective, there's no need to feel shame if you have a setback. It happens to the best of us!

It's easier to pick yourself up and dust yourself off when you look at the positives ... and there are positives in any quit attempt.
