Hi I'm Zelda and I have a high resolve this time to  quit this time.  I started last Saturday and lasted 6 days until I simply wanted a cig but I had a whole package.  It is once again Saturday and I am starting again.  I'm not feeling down on myself for giving in to a whim but I must make my resolve even stronger.  I am using an accupressure magnetic ear patch and Champix.  My two biggest problems are that I don't think that others really care if I quit or not and I just give in to having a smoke.  I realize that it would be easier just to NOT have the puff or that cigarette and to keep going on my resolve to quit.   I have Major Depression and it is always an ongoing battle in my life!.   Got pnuemonia at Christmas and it was so difficult to breath and to cough that it gave me the extra strong will to quit.  I just started one week ago.  For the first time I really want to quit smoking.

    Hi Zelda,
Go for it!  You sound so stoked.  It's not that nobody cares if you smoke or not, it's just that they know they can't stop you, only you can make that decision.  You've got a solid plan, though, so the best of luck to you.

    Good Evening zelda,

Great to see you here on SHO! Welcome!

We can hear your resolve to quit! It sounds as though you've done some important preparation (having the accupressure, Champix ) and that you are motivated to quit by your recent experience with pneumonia, and now, setting up support through SHO! You are ready to go!

Know we're all here rooting you on, feel free to come by anytime!

    Hi Zelda,

We have to quit for ourselves first, plain and simple.  So you have to tell yourself that you are quitting primarily for YOU, and not for anyone else.  Sure, other people will benefit (spouses, siblings, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, friends), but it has to be for you first.

Zelda, I have two sisters that I am in contact with more than anyone due to the fact that we live close to each other.  Both smoke, and they smoke in front of me.  Neither one encouraged me when I told them I was quitting.  Neither one of them offered me any support at all.  To be honest, it was hurtful, but I said to myself, oh well, I get it.  I am doing something they wish on some level that they could do, but for whatever reason, they are not doing.  And I think that on some level, they wanted me to fail, so they could say to themselves, see, how could I ever quit when she couldn't?  But oh well, I DID quit, and I KEPT my quit, and now I have been a non-smoker for 14 months.  And you know what?  No one, not even my sisters, can take that away from me.  So there.  That's that.

Zelda, I bet you are a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for.  Why not give this a real chance?  How about believing in yourself and what you can accomplish?  Trust me, if I can do it (and I always said I had no willpower), you can do it, too.  I bet you're a lot stronger than I am.  Go ahead, kick some butt, and beat this addiction!  I'm rooting for you!
