    Hi Everyone
This is the second time I have seriously tried to quit. I am 7 days without smoking and feel awful stomach nausea and anxiety. I want to stay strong and thought joining this would help me. Anyone have any suggestions for nausea. I am off today and tomorrow and feel like staying in bed. I feel like I have the flu and have for days working was hard this week.

    Hi alexjw,

So sorry to hear that you are struggling today ... it sounds like you are having a rough time with withdrawal symptoms. Glad you've joined us - you are in the right place for support!

Are you using any quit aids? They can help, methods like the patch, gum etc. can lessen withdrawal and cravings while you get used to not smoking. While people do quit cold turkey, it makes it somewhat easier if you've got some support underneath your quit.

Feel free at any time to give us a call at Smoker's Helpline, we're here Monday through Thurs. from 8 am to 9 pm, Fridays from 8 am to 6 pm and Sat. Sundays 9 - 5 pm. We'd love to hear from you!

Hang in there and come by anytime to let us know how you are doing...

    All the best,

    Jennifer

    Hi alexjw,

Congratulations on being smoke free for over a week!  That is a really great accomplishment and you should be really proud of yourself.

I am sorry that you are feeling sick.  Unfortunately, we can experience a lot of different withdrawal symptoms, none of which are pleasant.  I used to try to sleep as much as possible, because when you sleep, you don't crave.  So if you feel like staying in bed, why not do so?  These symptoms aren't going to last forever.  They will pass.  I always say a little bit of pain for a lifetime of gain.

Hang in there, alexjw.  It will get better eventually.  But you have to go through some rough patches before things start to improve.

    Hi Schnarps
Its a bit better like an inch still tired and weirdly emotional thank you for rooting for me I just hit 14 days and holding on. I can't get over the exhaustion and I can't drink coffee or even think about wine not that I was a big drinker but just link those things to smoking. You stay strong too I know it has to get better nicotine is a drug and everyone has there own chemistry to work through. I wish I was more up and less exhausted but I have to believe it is worth it !!!!
    Thanks

    Hi alexjw and schnarps,

Congratulations on going smoke free. You are doing great! The first days and weeks can be challenging but it is very much worth the efforts. Having a quit plan in place to avoid coffee and wine and other triggers is very important. I too went off coffee to green tea which is a good antioxidant. Quitting is entirely possible. I am now enjoying 200 days of smoke free bliss and Brieffree and Treepeo above have much more than me.

Wishing you both another smoke free day.

    Eagerquit

    Hello alexjw,

As eagerquit mentioned, having a plan in place is so important. So for your work conference next Saturday, feel free to share your strategies with us.  This will indeed lessen your anxiety when you think ahead, empowering you and in turn giving you the conference to go less worried.

Congratulations on your quit, you got this!  We here to walk with you on your journey so connect with us and members to be there for you.

    Best to you,

    Marianne

    Hi alexjw,

Congratulations for making it past the two week mark!  That is truly wonderful, and good for you!

It's good that you are thinking ahead to the conference you have to attend and how to handle the stress.  I don't know if you have written a list yet, but if you haven't, maybe write a list of all of the reasons why you want to quit, and bring it with you.  Put it somewhere you can look at it easily.

These days I am more mindful than ever about how few people still smoke.  I know if someone smokes because I can smell it.  Actually, they reek, and it makes me ashamed that I reeked my whole life, too.  So try to pay attention to the people around you.  I think you will find that the majority of them don't smoke.  And don't you find you feel more confident now when you are talking to people, because you know you don't have bad breath and don't reek of smoke?  That is a huge burden you no longer have to carry on your shoulders.

Try giving yourself some pep talks.  You are doing one of the hardest, but most important, things you could ever do for yourself.  You are quitting smoking.  Be proud of yourself, and get excited, too.  You have worked so hard to get to this point.  Keep it going, because it is sooo worth it.  YOU are worth it.  Be kind to yourself.  Give yourself little treats to celebrate your victories.  You can do this, alexjw.  Believe in yourself.
