    Hello everyone,

I need to make you aware of a significant system outage for SmokersHelpline.ca this week, and the reason for it (that I hope will make it worth it).

Our site will be in maintenance mode for roughly 12 hours on the night of Wednesday, June 20th, starting at 7pm. During this time, you will be unable to access the site.

Now for the reason for the downtime. The enhancements include:

    Avatars
Your profile pictures on the online community forums will no longer be shadowy figures in a little grey box, unless that’s how you want to be seen. You will be able to upload pictures in your account settings (click your name at top-right, or the three lines on mobile).

    Days quit/Cigarettes not smoked
You will no longer be required to count your own days smoke-free or cigarettes not smoked – we’ll do it for you in the Quit Calculator widget on the user Dashboard.

First Week Challenge Contest entry status indicator
Again, we won’t make you remember whether or not you’ve registered for FWCC this month because we’re adding a green checkbox in your dashboard to let you know you’ve entered (it will reset at the beginning of the quit period so that you can register for the next month or the month after that, if you need/want to).

These things take time, especially as we need to dovetail with other system improvements across the Canadian Cancer Society, so we thank you as always for your patience in rolling out these additions.

    Hello everyone.

Well, that did not go as planned.

While we had hoped to minimize the impact of our downtime by doing things overnight, we hit some significant snags in the process that extended the outage significantly. As those issues stretched into the afternoon, we literally exhausted our team and they needed to tap out to rest. The long and short of it is that the upgrades listed above are not live, BUT the groundwork has been successfully laid. This means that the upgrades will be rescheduled for a (hopefully) much shorter outage in the very near future (potentially next week).

We are sorry for the inconvenience of the outage, and the disappointment at returning to the same old site. We hope that you’ll bear with us a bit longer, and I will provide a new date as soon as I can.

    Thanks,
    -Kyle-

    Hey everyone,

    A scheduling update for you:

The upgrades outlined above will be deployed Wednesday, July 4th during a website outage from 4pm to 9pm. If there are any delays or changes to the schedule, we will communicate them on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/smokershelpline.

We are sorry for the inconvenience of both outages, and we hope that you will come back to try out the new enhancements when we are back online.

    Cheers,
    -K-
