Just wanted to introduce myself. I am 37 years old and smoking since I was 17. Today is my day 1 of quitting. I am wearing the patch as I have had success with it before. I have a newborn (didn't smoke when pregnant, or one or two here and there to survive, but was very depressed) so I have a lot of motivation to quit. Plus I just hate it. It tricks me into thinking I love it, but I do not. So it is 8 in the morning and I have officially not had my "wakeup" smoke which has always been the hardest for me to give up. I am using black pepper essential oil in my diffuser as it is supposed to help with cravings, have support and the patch. I feel like I have set myself up for success better than I did in the past when I tried and failed. Reading all of the posts on here is really helping! I am also getting excited at all the extra free time and money I will have with not smoking :) Using "getting excited" as another form of motivation.

    Hi jenniferlynn,

Congratulations on starting this journey. You are well prepared!

That first morning smoke was the hardest for me to give up too... I'm only 6 days in but your post made me realize that I didn't even think about having a cigarette this morning.

I've been using a essential oil in a little roll on that I sniff if I have a craving. It is a mix of ingredients but also has black pepper oil in it. It has been working.

    All the best,
    Lisa

    Jennifer,

Welcome to the new non-smokers club!

Missing that morning smoke is one of the hardest for most of us. I turned to making steel cut oatmeal, the kind you cook for half an hour. Mesmerizing to stand there and stir it. Fills you up good too. Anything to distract from sitting there with my coffee and missing that smoke.

The money savings are one thing, but the overall improvement in mood, well being, energy and time are amazing.

I heard about the black pepper too, just wish i heard the essential oil part. Explains a lot. LOL.

    Lisa,

We get so wound up about the struggles to quit. We sometimes forget that a good laugh, or looking at the lighter side, can make a big difference in our quits.

2 months in and I still get a lot out of this site. Keeps me grounded in my quit. Glad to help brighten your day.

jenniferlynn and atp... yes, 6 days and I can finally laugh!

jenniferlynn, I know it is different for everyone but I got really edgy and angry my first few days. I just rode them out and spent as much time alone as possible (and only had one fight with my teenager). Hang in there, although it is very tough at first it now seems like a blip (or a bad flu). I'm still struggling a bit but life already is so much better.
