Hi to who is ever out there.
I just joined this site yesterday. I quit smoking Sunday evening Dec 10th 2017. I am 3 days in  and going through some crazy withdraws. I am very happy that I read the info on this site. Because it has give me info on what to expect.  It has also told me that I should not be doing this cold turkey.  Well I will have to hold out to I see a doctor I guess.

    Hi ziggy1965,

Congratulations on going ahead with your quit. As you know from what you have read, you might be experiencing the pick period of withdrawal symptoms, typically between day 3 and day 5.

You can always explore your options with Nicotine Replacement Therapy products to help lessen some of the withdrawal symptoms and perhaps your cravings as well, but that is up to you. Feel free to call Smokers' Helpline: 1-877-533-5333 to speak with a quit coach or speak with a pharmacist about it.

Be kind to yourself through this process and like brieffree said, one day at a time.

    Kindly,
    Valerie

    Hello ziggy1965

Congrats on 4 days smoke free!!!
This transition is brutal on the mind and body. NRTs are very helpful and boosts your willpower to fight those terrible withdrawls.  When I was ready to quit, i spoke with my doctor, who in turn enrolled me in the quit smoking program through our local health unit. They give me support, and provide me with NRT's free of cost and are working with me to find what works best with my body and routines. I've found that the lozenges work best for me. When ever i face a trigger that makes me cringe i take a drink of ice cold water and pop a lozenge.  I found Patches very itchy and burned my skin. Mouth sprays just didn't get me through the craving, and inhalers work fine but don't get you out of the hand to mouth habit. I hope me sharing my experience helps you.
Everyone here knows what your going through and how hard it is, and will give you encouragement. You are doing great!!!! Keep is going! :))))

    Hi Cassandra.
I have a young girl who works for me is nameed Cassandra.  But it with a K. I just wanted to thank you for ur in site and ur support.  It's been a hard night with cravings.  It such a wired feeling. The adiction You know ur not going to die in fact it going to be much better for you. But it's  the emptiness that you feel.. it's just a cigarette.
But the thing that really gets me is that I keep thinking about failing. . That the worst part for me. I keep thinking what going to happen when I have a beer or when I get around a buddy smoker witch is rare these days but it's  going to happen soon.. I can't just hide in my house for ever. But that is what really scars me or intimates me .. The failing part.. any ways I know I have to think posture .. and think about all the good it will do me.. Well it looks like I got through day 4!!!
Thanks for the reply and the tips on the RTN s
    Moving  in day 5 .
    Thx so much  Ziggy!!

    Hi befree
Thanks for ur input. I have to say the next few days will be a big challenge for me .  I usually go for a few drink on Friday or Saturday night.  Its the nights I smoke the most the night I go out.. I am definitely going to get a RTN today after work. I really hope I can make it to Sunday. Not that Sunday is an easy day for me I usally smoke a lot  that day when I watch football too. But the next few days will be hard. . Hope to start a new thread on Sunday. With 7 days under my belt. Thank agian. Ziggy.  PS how long have you been smoke free?

Congrats on Day 5 smoke free!!!! I myself am 16 days smoke free. Tips for getting through social gatherings other than Nicotine replacement therapy, grab a stir stick.... chew on it, fidget with it, breath deeply and think to yourself when you see someone else smoking.... "That is not me, I don't need that Poison in my body, I am doing a great thing for me! Yay I made it through 5 Days!!!!"
