Last night didn't have the best night of sleep and not sure if it's related to stoping smoking Day 4.  As I was getting ready for work from shower and onward only thing I could think of was  how good it would be to have a smoke. Today seemed to be quite the day for lots of cravings.  So mentally and physically it's been a challenge not to smoke. Gotta say .. one of the best things of not smoking is not smelling like it. It's funny -- As I walked into worked I passed someone who is obviously a smoker and you can smell it on them .. Not that I'm critical .. I'm just happy that's not me. Day 4 if half way through .. Hour by Hour I fight this battle.

    Hi Krasyal1975,

Congratulations on making it through day 4!! That's a really big accomplishment and something to be proud of.

I'm sorry to hear that it's been challenging, but it's so good to see that you're also finding some benefits to being smoke free.

Sleep disturbance can be a very common withdrawal symptom when quitting. This will pass with time. Maybe reduce your caffeine intake (that is if you're a coffee, tea, or pop drinker) and see if that makes any difference for you.

    Wishing you all the best,
    Emily

    Krasyal,

I remember in that first week of quitting and my sense of smell improving and noticing smokers. Wow did stale smoke stink on people. Especially in the winter months when it gets into their coats and all. Right after that I went on a major cleaning spree with all my jackets and clothes, Lysol spray to my van, garage, etc. A fresh start so to speak.

Take a quick walk up a flight of stairs and stop at the top and see if you notice any difference. Breathing better?

Fight through the cravings - I went through bags of Nibs, Excel gum, pea snaps, oranges, and lots of water. Oh, and then there was Old Dutch Ketchup chips - they saved me a bunch of times.

And everyone always laughs at me, but I took up cooking steel cut oatmeal. I would stir that for 30 minutes in the morning with an intense focus. Kept me from wanting to step out on the deck for my usual smoke and coffee. Find something new to occupy your time.

As for the sleep, I'm one to fall asleep before my head hits the pillow. The first 3 weeks of my quit I was in bed at 8pm because I was so tired, but I tossed and turned all night. That is you body healing. also, if you use the patch take it off before bed as a lot of people get some really weird dreams.

    Good luck.
