    Hi sue-q,

It's great that you have time to prepare before your quit date.  There is some great information on this site.  Check it out.  The more prepared you are, the more likely you are to have a successful quit.

I think it's great that you chose April Fool's Day.  Turn the tables on your addiction, and make a fool of your cigarettes.  Tell them that you don't need them any more.  You can do this.  Enjoy the freedom!

    Hello sue-q and others..

Yay for you and deciding such a life changing experience! And it'll be an even memorable day then!!!
Just remember quitting is serious business,  that's for sure... many different of coping mechanisms.  I find humour in most of my day to day experiences. I've thrown temper tantrums,  and  been down right cranky!
Cravings are nasty reminders and I still get plenty of exercise rejecting impulses and well,  still getting used to living as a non smoker (day 46).
I considered my pre quit as practice for real and actual buckle up,  big girl boots on quit date. Myself personally,  I've had quite the experiences since I've gone and done it - quit!
My whole day before quit date...  Oh did I smoke my self silly,  I mean,  I was never going to smoke again! I was nervous to commit!  And now I'm staying I can and do feel nervous.
I am only still in "days" of being smoke free; I cannot wait to be in the "years" of being a non smoker...
And coming here on this site? Its a relieving feeling to not be alone,  or the only one who has similar something.. Its fun to keep coming back - I look forward to many stories shared.

    Hi sue-q

Welcome to this forum!  I have found this community helpful and supportive since I quit smoking on March 5.
I thought about quitting for a whole year, and did all sorts of preparation before I actually jumped off the ledge.  I set quit date after quit date, and  panicked the day before each one - telling myself I wasn't ready, I couldn't do it  well, I FINALLY did it - there was a snow storm and I had only one cigarette left - but I had Nicorette since I had been preparing to quit for so long!  So that was my quit date!  And I have been doing great ever since - it hasn't been easy, but it has been 110% worth it!
I found it helpful to make a quit plan, and to state my reasons for quitting, and then to review those regularly.  And to have nicotine replacement, identify triggers and avoid those situations when I can.  Take deep breaths.  Drink lots of water.  Just last night, I had a dream that I smoked two cigarettes!  That was new.
What really helps me is to see how much money I'm saving, how much life I'm gaining, feel how much more energy I have, and to hear my 9 year old son say "you're doing great, mom!"  And also to step outside and feel that I have broken free from the chains of smoking!
You can do it!  Looking forward to hearing about how you're doing......
