Hello all! This will be my 5th serious attempt at quitting, following a 32 year or so habit. They do say practice makes perfect so hoping for a bit of perfection this time.
Reasons for quitting are many - but mostly because of my mom who passed away peacefully last month. She was a 20 year lung cancer survivor, then on 4 July she developed some pain in her chest, a cough and was actually unable to mobilize at all and quite confused. Admitted with a diagnosis of pneumonia, started on IV antibiotics following an x-ray which showed a 'small' effusion in the base of her right lung. 48 hours after treatment, still had not improved and her mobility was now nil. She was still complaining of pain in her right side and some abdominal discomfort. Her confusion was improving but still worrisome. Additional tests, including CT w/contrast revealed that the cancer had returned, and in fact had returned with a vengeance. She had multiple mets - on her stomach, on her adrenal glands, on her spine (hence the decreasing mobility. That was 15 July. She died 7 August. It's time - her 20 year survival gave me a false send of security - if mom could beat this I could too, if it happened to me. She was 79 and lived next door to me. I miss her terribly.
