I am on day 2.  Not feeling too bad - I am on the patch and have lozenges,  The problem is, it seems that whenever i have a bad craving, I instantly smoke.  It's like I really don't want this.  But smoking cessation for me right now is he most important thing in my life.  So today, I will really try to use my means,  I will drink lots of water, and take lozenges.  I am also going to try and go for walks more often.

    Have a great day!

    Hi Franny,

Are you still smoking with the patch and lozenges?  I smoked for over forty years and told everyone I would never ever quit.  For some reason I thought I would be exempt from all the health risks that we hear.  But, about 6 weeks ago, I realized, smoking is going to affect me, and I better do something quick about it.  I gave myself a quit date, extended it by a week due to medical testing that I was nervous about, but have now stuck it out for five days.  I want to quit and I want it really bad.  More than anything that I've ever wanted in my life.  This feels like the most important decision that I have ever made and will ever make.  I've decided that I want to live and that I matter.  I hope you can somehow find a way to realize how important quitting is and to really want it for yourself.  Dianne

    Hello Franny,

Congratulations on your quit! The 1st 3 days is often the hardest, so don't give up!
Also know that cravings are normal and will pass whether you smoke or not.
I often view cravings as a knock on the door, acknowledge the craving is knocking but you don't have to answer it. Hope this helps!

We are all rooting for you!

    Hi Franny,

Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking. Yes, it is quite a challenge but your plan with the NRT and water will get you there. Make a list of your reasons for quitting and keep it handy. Instead of reaching for a smoke, grab the list and read it. I also have a list of rewards for milestones on my quit journey. It gives one something to look forward to.

Wishing you another smoke free day.

    Hi franny,

I understand what you are going through and have gone through with smoking. I’m on day 3 and am struggling at times too. This time I am telling myself that I only have to stay away from one smoke and that is the next smoke. That next smoke would be detrimental to my health and come with all the baggage of addiction.

Find what works for you. You’re worth it!

Hi Franny - I trust you are doing well.

I found walks to be an excellent distraction.  In fact, I worked out more in the first few months of my quit than ever.  Not only did it provide a distraction, but the positive effects of not smoking were quickly evident.  It is difficult, and takes time, but it does get easier.  E
