Mark Twain had it right when he said, "Quitting smoking is easy, I've done it a thousand times".  I am just over a month into my latest quit and I feel that I am already starting to fade again.  I know that smoking is not good for me and I also know how hard I have worked to get here but part of me could care less and says, "screw it I want to smoke".  I am on the patch, and it helps get me through the day, but what it doesn't help with is my mind.  I trying to use all types of influence to help me, but maybe I'm just not ready to quit.

Hi jamesdallas59.  First off, over a month into your journey is an incredible accomplishment so congrats to you!!
I know exactly how you feel.  I have quit so many times.  Once for 9 months.  Why I started again is exactly your mindset now.  "I still get cravings" "I like smoking" "Why I am I keeping myself from something I enjoy".  The truth of the matter is when we smoke we want to quit and when we quit we want to smoke.  It is a vicious cycle that has gotten me every time.
You and me and the rest of the people who are on this journey just need to take it day by day like any other addiction.  Today is bad day. Tomorrow might be a bad day.  But, tomorrow might be easier and so might the next and the next....
You CAN do this and you wouldn't have made it this far if you didn't really in your heart want to quit.
I've set my quit day for Saturday so I am right behind you.  Don't give up - you got this!

    Hi jamesdallas59,

Let me be another person to congratulate you on over a month quit!

I know the cravings can be challenging and thoughts can come up to smoke again. Sometimes it can help to remind yourself of why you quit or even what you're enjoying about being smoke free. We can often focus on what we're missing instead of what we're gaining. Are there any benefits you're noticing?

Great to see that you came to the site for support instead of smoking. That speaks volumes to how important this quit really is to you.

    Emily

    Hi jamesdallas59,

Congratulations on a month quit. I definitely can identify with how hard it is to stay quit. I just take it one day at a time and make no commitment for off into the future. When I quit two months ago, I made a list of my reasons and refer to that list frequently. It helps me a lot to not forget my original purpose for this journey. I also have a bucket list of rewards for staying quit and that gives some incentive.

I hope this helps you along the way.

    Hi jamesdallas59,

I felt the same way as you do.  The urge to give in was so strong, I kept coming up with excuses as to why I should give in.  I kept asking myself if I really wanted to quit, if I was really ready.  But deep in my heart, I knew that was really just my addiction talking.  The bottom line was I did want to quit, and I had lots of reasons why I wanted and needed to quit.  You do, too.  And you have made it through that all important first month.

Hang in there jamesdallas59.  You are stronger than your addiction.  Kick it to the curb.  You don't need it any more.  You are doing great.  Keep the quit - you're worth it!
