hi!, new to this never did anything like it before. soo i've been smoking for 10 years and i've tried cold turkey a couple times and it didn't work.. i'm ready, i'm just worried. it's so habitual, i'd smoke and drink coffee all day i love it. but i need to stop. i have 3 kids(5,2,1), hubby works fulltime 8-4:30pm work 5-1:30am, needless to say i don't have time for friends and have a highstress very busy life. it's like smoking is the only thing i do for just me, (i go outside so it's also little spurts of alone time)my parents both smoke my mom quit for years and started again.. i get sad at the thought of being in a hospital bed dying hating myself for being to weak to stop, i cry at the thought of my kids saying their mom died young because she couldn't quit.  i already cough like my grandpa, can't run, can't breath in the morning. i just wanna be done. i think i'm going to buy patches tomorrow.. and chew on straws. i'm good at being positive to others let's support eachother!!!:)

I feel your pain. I have tried a couple times as well. I am trying again today (hoping for the last time!) I am going to be using the patch though. Cold turkey is very, very hard for me (not that it can't be done, I just have failed that way so many times). My motivation is the same as yours. My child. I am hoping coming on here and reading others posts and having a bit of support helps as well. I also use an App called smoke free which counts the time and tells you the benefits (including money saved) as you go along. I have found it helpful in the past. Hopefully coming on here will motivate us even more!

I personally found my first day smoke free exciting. I found it to be the easiest day so far. I have quit now for 11 days and felt drinking water really does help. Also I found myself without trying, getting things done with my newly discovered enegry!

Rest Assured! Not only do the patches seem to work, if you can delay delay delay in the morning, you are off to the races. After sleeping you have already cut the cycle of withdrawl. I have not felt withdrawl at all, and have been smoke free 11 days so far.

    Hi mama, jenniferlynn, and karen

Welcome to the forum.  It's great to see new people here, and encouraging each other along their journey.  This is a special place full of support and wisdom, and has been instrumental in many members' quits.  You are never alone.  You are not the only one experiencing what you may be.

What worked for myself early in my quit was making the decision to quit.  I didn't 'try' to quit, I 'decided' to quit.  Simply trying was not enough to break the psychological aspects of smoking, and was too easy to relapse thinking "well, at least I tried".  Making the decision to quit is much more definitive.  It is a different mental state.  It reeks of commitment.  There is no easy escape from the decision to quit.  Smoking is not an option.  It's like Yoda says, "There is no try, there is only do".  Quitting was still a challenge, but this simple philosophy worked for me.

Wishing everyone a joyous smoke-free day.

    E

    Hi mama37 and efreeman75,

You are absolutely right, the mindshift from "try" to "doing" is quite a turning point!
Keep it up, you got this and we are all here for you!

Glad the app is working well for you, it's nice to see your daily progress.

    Have a great day everyone!
