Hey, how you doing, my name is smitty, I have been quit now for almost 4 1/2 months, its getting pretty rough eh, I quit by using a combo therapy of the patch and the spray, i planned my quit carefully, went to my doctor and he referred me to a quit coach, she supplied the patches and the spray for me free of charge, the only catch was that I follow the plan, I followed the plan and then I realized one day that its been 3 weeks since I last used a patch, the thing is prettyinpink, what works for me, may not work for you, you have to figure out something that works for you, I
would suggest that you go see your family doctor and see if you can get into a smoking cessation program, I am not saying that you cant do it cold turkey but you will stand a better chance if you get some help, but if you are determined to go cold turkey then I would get some scotch mints, or some chewing gum just to keep your mouth moving, the other thing that I tried was going for walks, deep breathing, and most importantly drink lots of water distract yourself, find a hobby, do some gardening, just be patient with yourself and if you do slip, get back up of the ground and try again, because Im going to tell you the truth, your in for the fight of your life, be patient with yourself and don't get discouraged and you will do fine, I would also suggest that you talk with one of the quit couched here on this site, they are a very good source of encouragement, when your feeling down talk to someone, it helps, all the best in your journey

    Hi prettyinpink,

Welcome and congratulations for taking this decision to quit smoking!

Today, you made an important decision that will bring positive changes in your life. You are on your way to a healthier lifestyle. The process of quitting can be challenging but if you don’t lose sight of your goal and you keep trying, you will eventually reach your goal and become smoke-free. There are different approaches and methods to quit and everyone is different. Like smitty said “you have to figure out something that works for you…” You know yourself best and you know what works for you. You can do this!

Many people find helpful to have a plan and learn how to handle things like withdrawal symptoms and triggers; how to strengthen their motivation and get a good support from friends and family. Other people increase their chances to quit by using a nicotine replacement therapy such as the patch, the nicotine gum or spray etc. No one way works for everyone and many people try several times before they succeed. If they persist, they will eventually succeed.

Know that we are all here for you and you are not alone in your quit journey. Come by anytime with questions or concerns or just to let us know how you are doing.

Best wishes and good luck on your quit journey!

    Hi prettyinpink,

It is great that you decided to quit smoking.

I quit cold turkey, too.  I found the first month really hard.  My cravings were off the charts.  But I waited 10 minutes at a time for the cravings to end.  I drank lots of water, and did things to distract myself.  And I told myself that I simply could not give in, or I would be right back where I started.

Be more stubborn than your addiction, prettyinpink.  Live by N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever.  And take it one step at a time.  You can do this.
