How do you know when to come off the patches and once off can you still use the mist spray or lozenges?  I quit Jan. 21, 2018 finishing off the 2nd step wonder if I should continue on with step 3 or just eliminate.  You input would be appreciated.

Hi Maganon, Now that you've passed the three month mark you may be ready, I can't decide for you.  I still get a bad craving once a week, and think of smoking several times a day, so I interpret it that I'm not ready.  So long as all of your back up strategies are in place, like coping skills, you should be okay.  On a personal note, I don't see the point of the third step in Patches.  I'd rather be off them and chew a 2mg. piece of nicorette gum, or the mist.

    Hi meganon,

Congratulations for all the hard work you've done to reach this day! It seems like your quit is going well and you have reached the 3 months mark – it’s awesome!

Some smokers will continue to use other nicotine replacement products (NRT) once they stopped the patch. Everyone is different and it’s always good to have some tools and strategies to rely on until you’ll feel comfortable with your quit.

Regarding the patch, people usually use it for 2-3 months or longer. It can be combined with other NRT’s such as the spray and the lozenge – It’s always best to consult a pharmacist or doctor before starting any nicotine replacement product (NRT) or trying a combination.

Meganon, you are doing fantastic! Keep doing things that work for you and keep going strong!

    Hi Maganon,
How are you doing coming off the Patch?  I was lazy and didn't put one on yesterday or today and was surprised that I didn't have any strong cravings.  We'll see how I am in a few days, as that's when it really shows up.  But I quit the week before you and I'd love to know your journey.  I have chewed a nicorette gum here and there, though.  I'm surprised I don't feel withdrawal.

Hi Ocean:  I am off the patch feeling so much better my husband says my eyes look so much brighter without the nicotine.  The lozenges & mist are both available to me but have not had a great need to take them the gum I don’t like.  This has been  a great experience for me never thought I could do it. Still keep in touch with my pharmacist he is who I got my supplies threw will get more lozenges this month he program was through our Health Unit every thing supplied at no cost.

    Hi meganon,

So happy to hear how good you are feeling.

It's nice to see that you have a back up plan with the lozenge and mist if you need it, but it sounds like things are going really well for you. Congrats on your quit!

    Emily
