Good morning everyone. So today is day 7 for me of my new journey of becoming a non smoker. I am using the patch and it seems to be helping a lot. I have however had a couple really bad days with my emotions running so wild I just sat there and cried. And once the craving finally let go I was just physically exhausted. I am however very committed this time to become that non smoker that I have always wished I could be.
What I have noticed so far is that I am no longer hear myself wheezing when I go to bed at night. Which was really starting to scare me.
    Have a great day everyone
    Jen

    Hi jenny12,

Congratulations on 7 days of being smoke free!

I'm happy to hear that you're finding the patch helpful, especially since It sounds like you are experiencing some challenging cravings from time to time or maybe some withdrawal. Stay focus on all of the benefits you are noticing and what you look forward too with being smoke free. You're doing a wonderful thing for your health!

    Have a great evening,
    Emily

    Hi Jenny12,

A big congratulations on being smoke free for a whole week!  That is terrific!

It's great that you feel the patch is helping.  Thank goodness for NRTs.  They are a real lifeline for so many people, and it's great to know that there are now products available that can help us beat this addiction.

In terms of your emotions, I can relate.  At the end of my first month, I cried for 2 solid days.  And before that, I alternately felt giddy, spacey, anxious, and a whole host of other things.  But like you, I also noticed that I wasn't wheezing in bed at night.  And now, 14 months later, the difference is like night and day.  My breathing is a whole lot better.  I no longer have jungle mouth when I wake up in the morning, and I have lost my smoker's cough.  And I don't have to worry about reeking of smoke any more.

Keep the quit, Jenny12.  You are going to love being a non-smoker!

    Hello Jenny,

Congrats on your quit!  Keep going, you can do it!
Today is day 6 for me.  It has been a challenging week physically, with nearly constant headaches and sleeplessness.  The cravings are not too intense, though the thought of smoking pops up regularly.  I've been a smoker for 35 years and tried to quit many times.  I am really enjoying the freedom from cigarettes, and have noticed my sense of smell is much better.
I chew nicotine gum though out the day, especially when I know I would normally have a had a cigarette.  I remind myself why I am quitting, and take a lot of deep breaths!

Thanks everyone your support is very much appreciated. Today is day 12 and I am not doing to bad. I did think I might lose it on Sunday when I left home to go to work. I stopped at the drugstore and talked with them at the pharmacy, she suggested that I buy some of the nicotine gum and try that when it was bad. I am so glad I did because it really helped with the urge to smoke.
I am starting to feel a lot better, I have regained my energy, and have found I have a lot more time on my hands.
I am more determined than ever to keep my quit, I don't want to ever have to go through the first week again. I have tried many times before this and I really want this to be the last.

    Hi jenny,
I'm glad you found your way to the NRT gum.  I use both the Patch and the gum, and while I weaned down to the 14mg. Patch, the gum kept me from going crazy.  I still use both and proabaly will into my third month.  Let's do this!

    Hi Jenny,

Congratulations of Day 12 - way to go!

Yes, you will find you do have more time on your hands.  We used to waste so much time smoking.  Now we can do other things with our time.

Keep the quit, Jenny.  For sure you don't want to have to go through hell week again.  I think I was scared straight, if you know what I mean.  I couldn't bear the thought of going through that again.  Yuck.

If you're feeling better now, just you wait.  You are going to become aware of more and more changes to your health and well-being.  It's great to be a non-smoker!
