NRT and Zoloft Cancel The title field is required!

   I am taking Zoloft for depression and I've been told that I may not have the option of using NRTs to quit smoking. Has anyone had any experience with this or have any insight?

   Good morning mmel - I am on Zoloft (Sertraline) as well.  I tried an NRT a couple of times but it just wasn't for me, however, my doctor had no objection to me using an NRT.  As always (disclaimer time), it is best to check with your own doctor or pharmacist.  If you're smoking and getting nicotine (plus 1000's of other chemicals) vs. getting nicotine from an NRT, I'm not really sure what the difference is or who told you what.  Again, see disclaimer above.  I would be very interested to know if you find out the two can't be mixed.  E

   I don't have any direct experience with this, and agree with efreeman that checking with your doctor or pharmacist would be the place to start -- if you haven't already, that is. Sometimes it helps to get a second opinion as well.
   
   Two things to add:
   
   It may help to ask your healthcare provider about a pill called Zyban, which is also known as Wellbutrin when used as an antidepressant. It can help decrease nicotine cravings and withdrawals and also may lessen the chance of depression due to withdrawals.
   
   And it also may help to discuss potential changes to your Zoloft dosage while quitting, as quitting may cause temporary changes in brain chemistry.
