"A determined person doesn't find it hard to succeed they find it hard to stop trying"- Allen Steble  As of today Ive saved $47.04, have not smoked 84 cigarettes and smoke free for 14 days till an hour ago I had two smokes. After an awkward experience with my daughters in laws... it gnawed away at me on the hour drive home which I really know it shouldn't cause it wasn't about me but the entire visit was uncomforatable  and I gave in to what brings me comfort only to now feel bad about two things today! My resolution and $15 dollars later!! I'm handing over the pack I bought and moving forward and at this moment trying to forgive myself.

    adream01,

You should be so proud of yourself right now because your attitude about your slips is awesome! YOU are for sure determined.

It happens, you are not letting it discourage you, rather you are seeing it for what it is and moving on. Keep tracking those finances! They seem to be a great motivator for you.

Here's to your future (and continued) success,

    Jenna Lee

Jenna Lee, thank you for your support. The financial part plays a factor but more importantly my future health. I am determined. That trigger today took over my willpower and I am disappointed in myself and now trying to figure out when something like that arises again what I can do instead of falling back on smoking (which didn't solve anything)

    Hi adream01

I totally get it, but you always can go back to the quit zone!
    Remember your reason to quit!

I do remember time ago, when I get Mad for smoothing to sleep and smoke again, no more, I learn that I was failing again and again. Until one day, I built a lot confidence to fight the moment, it took long time.

Be nice with you, smoking is not the solution!

    You can do this!

    Hi adream01,

Don't beat yourself up over this. It takes a lot of determination to keep the quit and it sounds like you have it. So move forward with your quit and enjoy the smoke free life.

Great decision adream01!!!  You will save a lots of money this way..... Also if you quit fully, you will save a lot more.

Other than saving money you will also save your friends and family when you quit as you become more patient and tolerant towards people.  I know when I was a smoker I can hardly listen to anyone nor had the patience as the smokers can their BPs shot up instantly when they are facing tough situations.  This is how the nicomonster drums us up to quench it's thirst.

Now I am much more tolerant and have learned forget, forgive, and ignore. :)

    Hi everyone,

It is amazing how much smoking can affect different areas in our life, and how many areas can benefit from quitting. For example, finances, our patience, health, etc.

Adream01, many quitters find the disappointment of relapsing to be a great motivator to quit again and stay smoke-free! However,  often times being hard on yourself is not helpful and just making you feel bad.
If you feel like the latter is the case, try to let the disappointment go, and just focus on your new quit success.

    Thanks everyone,

    Jenna Lee

At the price of smokes I figure I can now A; bottle of wine B; manicure C;movie (take my own snacks ") )......The smoke I enjoyed the most was my one on the way to work....coffee, quite, no cars one the road at 5:20am,walking or taking transit is not an option for me. I've taken out the lighters no smokes now....just me and my coffee perhaps I should try a new radio station / CD??? any suggestions welcomed. DETERMINED AND WILL BEAT THIS!

    Hi adream01,

I quit cold turkey while I was on vacation.  I went back to work on day 4 or 5 of my quit.  My usual pattern as a smoker was to have 3 cigs before I even left for work.  So I got up a bit later, and instead of smoking, I had cereal.  But what I found really tough that first day was leaving my apartment without putting smokes in my purse.  I still had them at home, and I don't know how long I stood there thinking about it.  But then I said to myself, "You want to change your life.  Do something truly amazing.  Make this quit work."  And that was that.  I left for work without putting any cigs in my purse.  And I never went back to smoking.

I guess what I am trying to say is this.  Get excited about your quit, adream01.  Think about how much your life will change for the better if you quit smoking.  You will smell better.  Your breath will be pleasant, and you won't have jungle breath when you wake up.  You won't get holes in your clothes from stray ashes.  Your breathing will improve.  You will have more energy.  And you will be thrilled with your newfound freedom.  It is shocking how much time we waste smoking, and how it holds us back in so many ways.  If you quit, you won't have to worry about that any more.

You know, I am embarrassed to say this, but it used to be that when I went out for dinner with friends, I would have to step out to have a smoke at some point.  I couldn't even make it through a normal dinner.  I remember standing on the street, alone, in the dark, puffing away, while people walked by and looked at me.  I felt like such a loser, but there was nothing I could do.  My addiction ruled my life.  But no more.  Now I am a non-smoker and I am free.  And you can be too.

Good luck tomorrow, adream01.  I hope you have a great day!

    Good Morning!

Treepeo made a very poignant remark about standing alone outside while people walked by and looked at her. I was in downtown Toronto this weekend and noticed how very few smokers were walking on the street. As I walked along I noticed an occasional one or two furtive smokers in an ally way smoking, presumably on a break from work. So the shoe was on the other foot with me gawking at them!

Funny observation about smokers being relegated to the outer extremes.  While in Detroit last week, I noticed smoking at the hotel was only permitted on a small patio around the back of the hotel.  Staff were actually ushering smokers from in front of the hotel to such patio.  Later in the week I stopped at a Rib Fest in SW Ontario for some lunch, and noticed the smoking area was off in the corner as typical, but surrounded by metal construction fencing.  It looked like a cage full of smokers - a true reflection of the addiction smoking is!  Everyone here should be so proud of the effort they have put forth to escape the smoking 'cage'!!!!!

It reminds me of when Tim's used to have the 'smoking chambers' - the corners of the store they'd section off with glass.  Lol.  I wasn't a smoker at that time (am not now, quitting) but it was funny period of time when places were trying to accommodate smokers.  The glass cage thing was kind of silly, as I don't remember there being a second door/air lock type configuration.  Every time someone opened the door, I imagine smoke would have poured out.

    Good Morning,

I remember well the glass smoking areas in Tim Hortons. The ventilation system carried away the smoke but the whole room smelled awful of stale cigarette smoke. During the transition of smoking areas, the place where I worked had a covered open area outside with picnic tables that protected us from the elements. Then, even that was banned in Ontario and we had to stand in an uncovered area at the rear of the building out of sight. The company ruled that we could not stand in front of the building where we were visible to the street. We stood at the back of the building in rain, snow and sleet. I hated every minute of it.

    Hi adream01,

Isn't it great to smell fresh and clean?  I never realized how bad I reeked of smoke until I quit.  Now, whenever smokers comes near me, I could gag from the smell coming off their clothes, hair and breath.

You are doing great, adream01.  Keep focussing on all of the benefits of quitting.  It will help you get through the rough patches.

Treepeo, hi! Its astonishing how something that really does have such an odour could be so appealing to take up and then become hooked. I'm enjoying my pleasant smelling products and turning on my a/c in my vehicle and not have stale smoke smell emit from the vents :))
