I've tried quitting so many times I can't even count.  I've set a quit date for May 31st, two days from now, and will need all the help I can get.  I haven't decided whether I'm going to use an NRT or not, so I'm thinking I'll go buy some of the gum, just in case for hard days.  I'll be reading over this website a lot in the next few days looking for anything that can help this time around.  Thanks for being here.

    Hi daisey,

It's great that you are going to give quitting another shot.  And yes, it's a good idea to read the information on this site.  You will find some exercises that will help you to prepare for your quit.

Are you planning to tell your family and friends that you are quitting?  Personally, I did and found that it helped to keep me accountable.

Also, it's a good idea to think of things you can do to distract yourself in advance, so that you will know exactly what to do when you get cravings.  I tried to do things that I enjoyed doing, so that I was rewarding myself for my good behaviour!  Self-indulgent?  Sure, but it worked!  LOL

    Hi Daisey,

Welcome to the Smokers Help Line Forums. I quit several months ago with the help of the people here. I have found reading their success stories helps a lot. I started on my journey using 4mg NRT lozenges and gum. They absolutely helped me over the rough patches. At first I used a lot of them then over time lessened that to just one or two per day.

I keep my reasons for quitting in front of me along with a bucket list of rewards for reaching milestones along the way.

Wishing you all the best in your quit journey.

    Eagerquit
