    Hello All,

I am new to this forum with helping people quit smoking.

As the title says this will be my 5th time trying to quit smoking, I have had small success with not smoking for 3 months at one point which I was really into gaming on Hi-Rez's Smite, but since I broke my addiction with that game and have moved into my house last year in Oct. the stress pushed me back into smoking again. I am looking for some tips and tricks to help me get rid of this bad habit for good.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated and any success stories may help me break this nasty habit for good.

I look forward to your stories and help.

    Thank you in advance,

    Tarrian Blackhole

    Hi,

    Welcome Tarrian.

Briefree finds distraction to be a very helpful strategy in getting through it. Give that some thought, maybe make a list of projects you could use to help. Slow deep breathing can mimic the inhales you made as a smoker and help you to relax. It may be a good idea to use that, practice it daily to help it become the norm for you when craving or stressed.

Little things do add up to help!

Welcome again, explore the site(check out Dahlia's post in cravings or glenagin...or so many others)  and the information and you will be well on your way!

    Hi tarrian blackhole,

Welcome to Smoker's Helpline.  It's hard to quit smoking.  I think we have all tried numerous times to quit before we were totally successful, so you are not alone.  The most important thing is to never give up trying to quit.  Each time you try, you learn something.  For example, you know that stress triggered your latest slip.  Now you can't eliminate stress from your life, but you can learn to deal with it without smoking.  So maybe try some physical activity that you enjoy to help you blow off the excess adrenaline you get from being stressed.  Or just go for a walk and enjoy your surroundings.  Pay special attention to the different kinds of trees, and how their branches sway in the wind.  Immerse yourself in a good book.   Or work on some household chores you have been ignoring.  Anything to take your mind off smoking.

You quit for 3 months before, so you can do it again.  Believe in yourself.  You are stronger than your addiction.

    Hi tarrian blackhole,

Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking. It is a tough addiction to leave behind but you do have the power. What I found helpful was to write down my reasons for quitting and placing them in a prominent place that I look at often. I also wrote out a bucket list of rewards for reaching certain milestones in my quit- one week, two weeks, one month, two months and so on.

Your doctor and pharmacist can help you with suggestions. The quit coaches at the Smokers Helpline will also provide you with guidance in your quit 1-877-513-5333.

    Wishing you every success.
