Something just clicked in my head this time--a strong determination to quit.  I'm in my fifties and see my friends getting scary diagnoses such as COPD, Cancer.  Some can't make it up a small hill, others are out of breath in just a few steps.  One is going on oxygen.  I don't want that.  My mobility is so crucial to me.  Two feet and a heartbeat is how I get around.  I am already feeling so much better and received a compliment on whiter teeth already!  I was starting to hork up icky crap and want to address this part of my health.  Everything else is on point.  This was so difficult in the past.  I guess I really want it this time and am prepared to avail myself of all the help out there.  Best wishes to all and like they say, never quit quitting!

    Hello cheryl5000,

We all have those moments that click. Yours is here and we so glad for you.  Sorry to hear of your friends and that would certainly make you think about your own life.  Your motivation is stronger now by what you are saying.

Any thoughts on what steps you are going to take in the planning process?

Feel free to share with us so we can be a support to you.

    All the best to you!

    Marianne

    Hi Cheryl5000,

I understand exactly what you mean.  I had the feeling that this was "my time to quit", and have now been a non-smoker for just over a year.  It sounds like you, too, are really ready to quit for good this time.

I am also in my 50s, and it's time to stop taking my health for granted.  It is good that you realize how important things like mobility are to you.  By quitting smoking now, you are giving yourself the best chance to keep living the life you want to live.

Way to go, Cheryl, and keep the quit!

    Hi Cheryl5000,
I'm in my mid-fifties too, and this quit is so important just for me, and for preventing any disability.  Your motivations really reasonate with me.  I'm Day 19, we're so close, let's go the distance ladies and gents!
