Hi everyone, quit 5 days ago after 35 years smoking. I MUST quit. My mom was just diagnosed with lung cancer. It's so scary seeing what she is going through. No one else in the house smokes so they do not understand the crazy addiction. Right now I'm afraid of doing anything because I will want a smoke if I get off the couch. The anxiety has been tough but I can't let myself give in!

    Welcome Sherry!
Im only 12 days in. Yes I still want one, but getting better.  Are you using nrt? Im on the patch and have the gum for back up. You should get doing things.  When I usually smoke, like with my coffee or after meals, I color or do word search. And oddly enough, I smell my hands to remind me how much better they smell. I HATED the smoke smell on me, even after washing them.  Stay the course, it will be worth it! Not alot of input on this site.  There are a few good stop smoking groups on Facebook. And I have this ap called Quit Traker that really put things into perpective for me!  YOU CAN DO THIS!  Read through people's journeys  on here, even if they are old. It helps!

    hi Sherry15.
Congrats on quitting The first while is the hardest. Is does get easier. I was a 40 year smoker and I quit last February so almost 9 months for me. I used the patch and found drinking water out of a straw very helpful. Remember take it one day at a time. Reward yourself. And the best advice I got from here always remember NOPE. Not one puff ever.  I used this site a lot I find not as many posting lately. Good luck and keep posting 😃

You go Sherry. You can do this and remember you are doing it first for yourself and  of course your mom. I trust she is comfortable (pain free ). It is hard but very doable. I’ve been 23 days now and I’m doing it day to day. So can you. I quite once and thought to myself I could have just one. Well. NOPE. I kept going for 6 years. I’m back again on the patch and I AM going to quit because I said so. No more trying that one puff. I hasn’t worked that way for anyone I know so why did I think I was special. Well I’m not.. Cmon Sherry let’s kick butt.

    Hi Sherry15,

I know quitting is tough, but you can do it.  Drink lots of water to remove the toxins from your body.  Do things to distract yourself.  When you do something you enjoy, like reading a good book, think of it as a reward for your good behavior.  And keep telling yourself NOPE, Not One Puff Ever.  If you never take that first puff, you will be a non-smoker forever.

    Hey Sherry15
Hows it going ? Hang in there. I’m almost 5 weeks now and still in the right direction. Just day by day. Christmas shopping takes up time and decorating does too so not thinking about smoking all that time. Keeping busy helps a lot. Stay on track even though things are tough with your mom. Hoping she is comfortable.

Congrats on 13 days smoke free,,,I have a hard time sleeping as well..Maybe a doctor can suggest something..Or lay off the caffeine and pop..Limit the sugar intake..try herbal tea at night..treat yourself to a nice long bath at night...they say to sleep properly also means no tv at night and no computer use...you can also try to do some deep breathing to relax at night..
breath in slowly and hold for 5 seconds and breath out slowly...repeat as needed
and remember NOPE...Not One Puff Ever..

Congrats on quitting. I also used the patch. I took the patch off when I got into bed and put a new one on in the morning. I found I was having crazy dreams and not sleeping if I wore it to bed.
