    Day 8 for me and still feeling like I'm in a fog a lot of time. No big cravings, but am not full of energy and feel like I'm thinking in slow motion! I have only got this far once over a year ago, so don't remember how long this lasts?

    I’m glad to hear that you are smoke-free despite the withdrawal symptoms you are going through right now.

    Please note that withdrawal usually starts a few hours after you quit and may peak in 2 or 3 days. You should begin to feel better after that. Everyone can expect to experience some withdrawal symptoms while going through the quitting process. It is different for each person. Some people notice symptoms within a few hours of quitting, while others may not experience any noticeable symptoms. Although withdrawal symptoms may be uncomfortable, it’s a sign that your body is getting rid of all the harmful chemicals that have been in your system, and the healing process has begun.

    Here are some strategies that some people will try in order to cope with withdrawal.

    Fatigue
    Quitting can cause fatigue because nicotine is a stimulant. 
    Fatigue will lessen over 2-4 weeks.
    Take frequent naps.

    Difficulty concentrating or feeling spaced out
    Ease your workload for a while if possible. 
    Say to yourself  "This will improve over time. I'll be OK."
    Take some extra caution in the things you do.  Most ex-smokers say that concentration returns after a few weeks.

    Remember, most symptoms will go away in a while.
    If your symptoms persist for a long time then see your Doctor.

    Hi Lloyd,

    First of all, let me congratulate you on your 8 smoke free days.  Way to go!

    It seems we all experience a variety of withdrawal symptoms, and how long they last varies from individual to individual as well.  I remember feeling foggy from time to time, but that feeling generally didn't last.  For me, my biggest battle was with physical cravings, and I went through that for the first month.  After that, it started to ease up significantly.

    Maybe try some deep breathing to help ground yourself.  And give yourself a mental pat on the back as often as you can.  Quitting is not an easy process to go through.  It takes guts, determination and perseverance.  You have made it through the first week, so your chances of quitting successfully have increased dramatically.  Keep doing what you're doing and hang in there.  You're going to be okay.

    Hi Lloyd. 

    You seem well on the way to defeating that little nicotine monster. I was lucky and had minimal cravings and none after 3 days. I do get that foggy sensation  from time to time, like lightheartedness, or disoriented... I think it is because we are still trying to wrap our head around being a non-smoker after 45 years. It is still new to me after 17 days but adjusting well otherwise.

    You've got this quit. I don't know how long these fogs might last, but they don't concern me. Just remind of my journey to  freedom.  Maybe i am dreaming...............? If I am, please don't wake me up.  I feel great, breathing better and blood pressure is right on!

    Hi Lloyd,

    It's something many of us go through as our minds and body adjust.  I learned to laugh at the chaos.  Three times in the first month I went to grab my morning travel coffee mug only to find it beside the Keurig and my coffee all over the floor!

    The fog does lift, and when it does, the view is beautiful!!!

    OMG, that's so funny! And I can relate !   I have started to just smile at the dumbness, like where's my phone ( it's in your other hand) and why did I come into the kitchen?( get some water and breath !)
    im determined that this time I  WIN!

    keep it up lloyd it certainly is worth it to meet this challenge and know that your not alone in this race. i remember that i couldnt put supper together to cook. so i realised that i needed to go slow with my activities do things as simple as possible. but continue to read the forum post and let us know how your doing. all the best
