I was a 60+ cigarette per day smoker for years... Quitting wasn't easy for me, but I did it, and I'm celebrating 1230 days smoke free. My first smoke free day was July 18, 2014, and I've never looked back!

So to all of you out there who think it's impossible to quit, please lose that belief now. If I can do it, anyone can. I didn't want to quit when I did either. It still happened, and I cannot imagine going back to it. I'm enjoying life as a non smoker way too much to let smoking rule my life again.

Hang in there everyone... You *can* do it, and you will!

    Much love to all! :)

    Hi onyx,

Congratulations on 1230 days smoke free! What an accomplishment.

Thank-you for sharing your story. It's very inspiring to hear. What's been most helpful for you to get you to this point in your quit?

    Emily

    Hi Onyx,

I agree with you wholeheartedly.  If I can quit, anyone can.  I'm sure most of us feel that way.  Unfortunately, as you know, it's a very difficult process to go through, which is why it is so important for us to support one another, no matter what point in the journey we are at.  Like you, I really enjoy the benefits of being a non-smoker, especially the freedom from my addiction, which basically ruled my life.  Having said that, I still feel the pull from time to time.  As a matter of fact, the last two days have been a bit more difficult for me than usual, not sure why.  But I keep telling myself that as long as I stick to NOPE, I will be okay.

    Hi Emily, and thank you!

I think my biggest help was my husband. He never stopped believing I could do it, and was there with me through the worst of every stage of my quit so far. When I was sick from the withdrawal symptoms, he let me cry and talked me through the cravings. I was constantly reminded how much easier it will be for me to breathe once my lungs started healing, and I'd be able to do a lot of things that I wasn't able to do while I was still a smoker... The first on that list was get a second car! lol

Hearing my son say it's nice to just *go* instead of waiting for Mom to have a cigarette is awesome too.
