Hi alexjw,
Congratulations for making it past the two week mark! That is truly wonderful, and good for you!
It's good that you are thinking ahead to the conference you have to attend and how to handle the stress. I don't know if you have written a list yet, but if you haven't, maybe write a list of all of the reasons why you want to quit, and bring it with you. Put it somewhere you can look at it easily.
These days I am more mindful than ever about how few people still smoke. I know if someone smokes because I can smell it. Actually, they reek, and it makes me ashamed that I reeked my whole life, too. So try to pay attention to the people around you. I think you will find that the majority of them don't smoke. And don't you find you feel more confident now when you are talking to people, because you know you don't have bad breath and don't reek of smoke? That is a huge burden you no longer have to carry on your shoulders.
Try giving yourself some pep talks. You are doing one of the hardest, but most important, things you could ever do for yourself. You are quitting smoking. Be proud of yourself, and get excited, too. You have worked so hard to get to this point. Keep it going, because it is sooo worth it. YOU are worth it. Be kind to yourself. Give yourself little treats to celebrate your victories. You can do this, alexjw. Believe in yourself.
