It may not seem like it right now, but soon the warmer weather will be coming (hopefully...).
We often speak with people who find this a challenging time of year to quit. Spending more time outside. Maybe having other smokers around or a cold beverage in hand.
How does everyone plan to get through this spring and summer smoke free? Any tips? Suggestions to help others?

    Hi Emily

I like to share that is not only in the worm whether; When you cross the street, go for a walked, groceries and so....

What is working really well for me is to be prepare, I have my NRT with me and focus to avid any smoker, but sometimes is Not even possible.

You have to walk that street, no choose and the smoke is all around, so I hold my brief until I can not...

    Have clear what I want!

    Hi Emily,

I think that most smokers secretly want to quit, whether they will admit it or not.  So instead of envying smokers, I now feel sorry for them.  And I give myself a mental pat on the back for being strong enough, and determined enough, to quit smoking.  So the majority of the time, I am not tempted by people who are smoking.  But if I am ever tempted at any point, I will try to do some deep breathing while I think of where I started from, and where I am at now.  And that usually does it for me.  Because I really like being a non-smoker.

    Good Morning,

In the past before going outside I picked up my phone and a pack of smokes and carried it out. Now I pick up my phone and a pack of Trident or Excel. It is a pleasure today not to be thinking about when or how I will have my next smoke. That ball and chain has been unlocked and discarded.

I am finding my craving a little stronger as the nice weather approaches. I am excited to go for long walks and thinking about how nice it will be to breath better. .

I'm definately more impulsive in the first warm weather.  I picked up my new bike and borrowed a friends truck to do it.  On the drive home I impulsively stopped at a gas station and bought a pack of cigarettes.  WHAT???  The excitement got me carried away!  Just being outside again for hours at a time and thinking of all the spring fever habits on my goal list got me carried away.  It's way worse than Christmas and New Years for me.  But it'll all calm down again as it gets more routine.  I think the weather/activities are all a novelty again, so I'm likely to be impulsive.

    Hey everyone,

As you can see you are certainty not alone if finding this warmer weather a trigger and thank-you for sharing all of your tips. Like Ocean said it can be an adjustment to get into new routines without smoking. But it will come with time.

I see a lot of you are getting outside, but now doing it for healthier reasons. Getting in those walks or bike rides can really help. Or maybe using your NRT or regular/non nicotine gum.

Have a great smoke free evening everyone.
Please continue to share what's working for you. You never know what may be helpful for someone else.

    Good Morning All!

I spent much of yesterday in the yard doing my usual spring chores and maintenance. There were occasional times when a fleeting thought crossed my mind "Wouldn't it be nice to sit back with a smoke and admire my work." The thoughts passed very quickly requiring no action on my part. Instead I thought how nice it was to be able to get the job done without getting winded and having to stop a lot along the way. I have also noticed that I do not get winded on my long walks anymore. Bonus!
