Well, I decided to give quitting another try today. I’m anxious about getting through the withdrawal symptoms that are ahead but I’m also excited at the prospect of becoming a non-smoker. I have many reasons to quit smoking which include wanting to be healthier, have more energy, and to save money. The amount I spend on smoking in a year is ludicrous. I have much better ways to spend that money. I can’t wait to see the benefits of quitting!

    Hi Quitfriend

I couldn't agree more with your reasons for quitting. They match my own. I keep my list handy so it is always in view reminding me that today is not a good day to smoke. I also have a bucket list of rewards to look forward to as I continue on my journey. My dashboard today tells me I would have smoked 6666 cigarettes since my quit. Talk about ludicrous!

    Hi quitfriend,

Congratulations on going ahead with your quit attempt! You seem to have some great reasons and motivations to quit. Withdrawal symptoms are very common, and typically get easier to deal with after the first few days to a week of being quit. Have you thought of using an Nicotine Replacement Therapy like the gum/patches/lozenges? They may be able to help with withdrawals!

    And another try...

I wasn’t able to make it very far but I kept trying. I hope my persistence pays off. I quit yesterday at noon. This morning is definitely a challenge so I spoke with a quit coach, changed my scenery (having coffee in my bedroom lol) and gave mindfulness meditation a try. I’m going to keep busy today. I’m using the patch and lozenges/gum.

    Have a a great smoke-free day!

Try to remain positive and just take it one day or even, one moment at a time.  I'm on my fifth day and had so hoped that today would be easier, but it's not.  Habits are so hard to change and take whatever you need for the withdrawal symptoms.  I thought I could do without, but knew I was wrong by the second day.  Today is my housework day, and every time I finish a chore, I think, oh it's time for a reward, a smoke.  But, I haven't.  And I won't.  I've taken some small fast walks and had some good talks to myself why I need to quit.  Hope this advice helps you on your way!

    Linda and rosie1931,

Thank you both for your replies. It’s reminded me that quitting is definitely challenging but it is not impossible.

Rosie1931, I understand what you are saying. After I finish anything or before I start something the craving is there to remind me. Glad you have found walking to be helpful. I’ll have to give that a try as well. Congratulations on your 5 smoke-free days!

    Hi Quitfriend,

Congratulations on going smoke free. Persistence certainly does pay off. I too find meditation very helpful and do that every morning after breakfast before starting my daily activities. Your NRT will help you with those cravings.

Rosie1931 congratulations on reaching the fifth day. I think ex-smokers must have the cleanest houses anywhere. Walks are very helpful. My sister got me thinking about how many steps I take in a day. My walks to and from the gym are 5055 steps. Yes, I counted. Plus there was a walk around the supermarket on the way home and my walks inside. They add up too. Altogether somewhere around 7000 steps I think.

I hope you both enjoy the smoke free fresh air!

Well the title still fits. Today I started yet another attempt. I’ve started out feeling more determined and less anxious than last time. The only thing I have to do is not smoke.

I have been reading some of the other posts and they have been really helpful. With the reminder of one of the posts, I can use the knowledge that quitting is difficult to fuel my determination to make this the quit that sticks.

    Wishing you all a good smoke-free day!🙂

    Hi Quitfriend,

Its good to hear you are determined to leave smoking behind. There are a lot of ideas in these posts to help you along the way. I hope you will use the four D's/

Delay. The urge will pass whether you smoke or not.
    Deep breathe.
    Drink water.
Do something to take your mind off smoking.

    They have certainly helped me!

    Wishing you every success.

Thanks efram and eagerquit for your replies.

So far this morning I have been getting through a real difficult craving by using delay and a piece of nicotine gum. I think I will have to give some more of the d’s a try. This is one of my most difficult times of day. I was so close to giving in to the craving but I didn’t.
