Quitting is process of unlearning bad habits and learning good habits, requires patience and persistence.  Be prepared for many relapses and pitfalls, and get back on your track the following day after you relapse to restart you quit again until you learn fully how to better prepare yourself to quit forever.  Key is never a puff ever again.

Do whatever you have to do to keep your quit.  Yell, punch a pillow, have a good cry, go for a long walk, talk to a friend.  It doesn't matter what you do, so long as you do not give in to the cravings.  Make quitting smoking your #1 goal above everything else.  We are all entitled to be selfish once in a while.  Put yourself first on this journey and get the job done.

    Hello Everyone,

Great support!  To sum up- quitting is a process, requires patience and persistence.  Being prepared is important.  Have some outlets to express your feelings/emotions.  Any attempt to quit, is winning!

    Any other thoughts?

Educate yourself. Learn all you can about the process of quitting, what to expect, the benefits, the ill effects of continuing to smoke, smoking cessation aids (whether its snacks, NRT's, Champix, whatever). I spent a lot of time reading up about quitting, reading stories such as on this site and I really discovered how it isn't just a physical/chemical addiction, so much of it is a mental addiction. I never stopped to think about it that way.

Over many quits attempts my biggest failure was not educating myself on the whole process. 4 or 5 days in and I give in and start smoking again. I was so close so many times to doing it, nicotine was clearing my system and I just needed willpower but didn't understand the stages of quitting.

Even after all my reading up on the whole thing, I was still amazed at some of the truly transformative health improvements of quitting.

Prepare yourself and accept that it is a challenge no matter what way you go about quitting and whatever method of NRT you use. The cravings will hit hard for a while and trying to break the habit is a tough thing to do.
Read this forum loads and see how other people experienced what you are going through and got through it. Tell people you have quit; their support will help encourage you to stay quit.. and of course... NOPE.

Im into my 6th week now and there is no way Id have gotten this far along without this forum. Its a 'fun' way of documenting the process and getting feedback and comments and encouragement helps you stay on track. You feel as you move along through the days that you dont want to disappoint anyone by slipping. And if you do slip and smoke... dont see it as a failure... see it as you need to prepare for a fight to grab this addiction by the neck
and win. It is possible... you just need to believe in yourself and never give up giving up. NOPE NOPE NOPE. Those cigarette companies can keep their smelly smokes. I dont want them anymore.
