Well I have made it to day 16 and am taking a moment to do some positive self-talk about getting this far without smoking. I actually can’t believe that I have quit! I was committed to my smoking for the last 14 years and never missed a moment to light up. Now I’m just not focusing on it and using the gum every time I get the urge. Keeping busy helps. Distraction is everything. I even had a dream last night that I had a smoke and that I knew I was only cheating myself. I felt guilty in my dream! Thankfully it was just a dream! I’m still waiting on an appointment to see an ENT for a biopsy in my mouth. Scared out of my mind about this. Fear is an incredible motivator. Every time I even contemplate the thought of smoking, I think of my kids without a mother. And that stops the urge immediately. Still living in fear but feeling proud to have made it 16 days.

    Hi want2livelong,

Congrats on 16 days!! That's something to be very proud of.

I know you have very strong reasons for remaining smoke free and I can see just how motivated you are.
Hope all goes well with your appointment at the ENT. We'll be thinking of you.

    Emily

    Hi want2livelong,

WooHoo!  Congratulations on your 16 smoke free days!  You should be so proud of yourself!

Like you, I found distracting myself to be helpful when I quit.  Sometimes I would turn those distractions into a reward as well.  For example, I would treat myself to a new video game, or a good book.  I went for walks, and cooked some of my favorite recipes.  Anything to keep me from thinking about this rotten habit.

You are on a roll, want2livelong.  Keep it up.  You are setting a great example for your children.  And I wish you the best of luck with your test.  Please let us know the results.

    Thank you Treepeo
I am now day 30 and all is well! No concerns about mouth cancer. The ENT said it was all normal healthy tissue and not to worry. PHEW! So, I feel like I have a new lease on life.
    Have a great day!

    Hi Emily
YIPPPEEE! ENT said all is well, healthy tissue - no biopsy needed. What a huge relief! And now I'm 30 days smoke-free. So happy!! So glad I decided to quit. It was the best decision I have made in a very long time. Thank you for your support!
