Well here I am at my quit date.  I have been going through the new steps to get ready, I am still using the patches (21mg and 14mg) and lozenges.  I have been doing things like riding my bike, going for a walk around the block, watching tv and netflix to keep me distracted.  Over the last 3 weeks (since I got on back on the patches) I had a couple of really bad days of over a pack but on the whole I have been slowly decreasing the # of cigarettes smoked.  I have been doing really well with evenings and nights and smoking mostly through the day.  I got down to 4 yesterday.  The sharpies are all lined up on my desk and table and where my ashtray was.  I have my fidget spinners in my pocket I am pretty sure I got this handled.

Congrats on your ambition to succeed, Manderson4!!!

Keep on doing what's working for you: Distract yourself with whatever healthy distraction you can get your hands on.  Doesn't matter if it's playing with a "Fidget Spinner" or taking a jog around the block...There are tons of things you can do to keep your mind off of your vice.

When ruling out cigarettes altogether, keep your focus on manageable blocks of time: ONE HOUR / ONE DAY / etc.  Once you've achieved each manageable block, it's time to concentrate on a new goal: "I will not smoke for the next 60mins", etc.

You've got a great attitude - and don't ever let anyone try to convince you that quitting is difficult...
It's only difficult when you consider a whole week / month / year... Instead, focus on the smaller stepping stones that will eventually get you there!

Don't forget to check out my Online Resource page for lots more healthy distractions:

Nice to see you Manderson! You've got this. Having something like fidget spinners and sharpies to play with is an excellent idea, it means you're reprogramming your brain into being a non smoker. Getting rid of that hand to mouth habit can be so darn tough, so finding something to do with your hands is awesome.

Walking and biking are great ideas, you'll notice a huge difference with your breathing once you're off the cigarettes for even a few days.

Hang in there, before you know it, you'll be celebrating a year of being smoke free.

Hi Manderson, I like your header! I'm one month quit and just started a new profile on the new site, new forum to celebrate. Distractions are great. Also exercise. I find good deep breathing the best because it reminds me that the itchy feeling of the craving is actually a signal that my body is healing. Oxygen is nice!
