so I’m going on day 3 of no smokes. Unfortunately my parents make it seem like this means nothing because they don’t understand that quitting is not as simple as just not buying smokes. They don’t get that it’s harder then that. I know I did this to myself by starting smoking but they think I’m over reacting about the difficulties and my method. I’m using nicoderm 10 week program but they think I’m just spending money for no reason and being dramatic. When I told them yesterday it was two days without a smoke they brushed it off as if it meant nothing and sarcastically asked if I wanted a medal. I tried to get them to do a family movie as something for myself to have some fun and celebrate but they said no. I’m hoping for Saturday as they promised. But it’s day 3 now which is longer then every other time. When do you guys think it’s okay to celebrate the length of time gone without smoking? I also wanted to know what people use a mile stone? I know 3 days probably seems like nothing since a lot of people I’ve read have gone 2 weeks or over a year. But I’m hoping someone will understand that 3 days is an achievement. I just want someone to be proud of me. Sorry for the long post/rant I just don’t know where else to go besides here to talk and rant. I appreciate all of you and want everyone to know that I don’t care if it’s been 1 day or 5 years I’m proud of all you and want to lend a hand and support to anyone who might need it. We all need people sometimes and that’s what a community is a about.

Quitting smoking is really hard, and to many people who never smoked they may not understand that. If it were that easy then we wouldn't need supports like this site.

3 days without a smoke is huge. Think about the commitment it has taken you to get this far, and so you should celebrate. The first days and weeks can be really hard, but then it does get easier.

Try to look for the positives. You don't smell like an ashtray anymore, soon your sense of smell and taste will improve, etc.

Thank you so much. I really needed to hear that today. It’s also my first shift at work since I quit and I work in a clinic where customers can be difficult sometimes. Hearing that from someone will help me get through another day

    Hey mommasgirl,

3 days!! I can't tell you how proud I am of you!

atp is right ... some people may never understand the sheer strength it takes to quit. And what you are doing right now deserves recognition and encouragement. This is a good place to come for that.

Celebrate every hour that you didn't smoke. Every day is a milestone!

Every few days I sit down and write a "thank you" letter to myself. I list all of the wonderful things I'm gaining
and thank myself for keeping my quit. When I start to feel the anxiety/craving creeping in, I'll read those letters and I'm so proud I'm doing this for me!

You can do this for you!

And we're right here with you!
