Hi everyone! At Smokers’ Helpline, we like to encourage those trying to quit smoking to reward themselves for reaching certain milestones of their choosing (1 week, 1 month, 1 year…). Doing this can help motivate, and acknowledge the hard work you have been putting into becoming a healthier, smoke-free you!

What are some rewards you have given to yourself, or are planning to give to yourself?

Steven, trying to quit is not success.  To those who have quit, that is the reward.

We hear this a lot that simply breathing better, spending more quality time with family and friends and having more energy makes it all worth while. Acknowledging all the positive ways your life has changed can be a powerful tool.

    Hi Steven,

Before I quit, I never thought I would reward myself, but I quickly changed my tune.  I figured I had all this money I was saving by not smoking, so why not give myself some rewards to help with motivation?  So I bought myself  more computer games than I normally would, and splurged on take out food when the mood struck.  Once I got through the worst of my quit, I just let the money accumulate and used it for a trip to Mexico.  Now that was some treat!

    Hello Treepeo,

I love Mexico! What a nice choice to spend money on a trip as opposed to buying cigarettes.

Where did you go in Mexico? I hope you had a great trip!

Many years ago, my sister and her fiancée were worried about how they were going to pay for their honeymoon and they decided to quit smoking together and voila! The money they saved by quitting smoking for 6 months or so paid for a cruise!
