My wife and I both quit on October 21st. A 40 year...pack a day habit for me. I was told my dental surgery would be a waste if I kept smoking. Nicotine wouldn't allow the bone grafts to take. Fine. I was looking for any excuse. And guess what? It's been way easier than I thought. I upped my exercise...and got a hold of some non-nicotine vape sticks as pacifiers. I'll be 8 weeks clean in a few days. I can't believe how relatively easy it's been. And I have no intention of ever trying even one puff.

My wife...fell off the wagon a few weeks ago. Weight gain. What bs. I told her to read all the info now available. She didn't. She wanted to smoke. And she's been smoking in our small apartment. And in the stairwell...even though building management knows someone is smoking there.  It makes me sick...doesn't trigger me at all...at this point. But I know addiction. It's patient...and selfish. My wife is the example of selfish.

And right now I feel like separating from her. I hate this. But I won't smoke.

    Hello Kramo,
Congratulations on your quit, it sounds like you are doing great and are managing your cravings very well. It's great to know that you are very committed to staying smoke free even with the challenge of having someone that smokes in the house.
As you know, quitting is not easy and it can be challenging for some people, we are glad that this is not something that is triggering you to smoke. It's extremely difficult when you want your loved ones to quit and they are not, wonder if looking at one of our booklets on how to Help a Smoker Quit can help. Please let her know she can also call us for support at 1-877-513-5333.

    Keep up the good work!

    Hi Karmo,
congrats on your success!!! We can do this!!  yes, it's easy and we need to be strong and stay nope!!! Cigarettes cannot solve any of our life issues and hurdles, yet will only make it worse as we allow our self to ignore the problem, and also keep wasting money on these expensive addiction to drug our selves to hide from our inabilities to meet and face our daily challenges in life head on and accepting any consequences.

As for your wife, she needs your help as she could be a lot more stressed than you're.  You just need to be sympathetic that her addiction is still holding her down, and need to keep motivating her to keep trying to quit.  We can do this!!

Thanks. But my wife is not stressed. She's been off work for four years. Spends 3 months a year in Florida and the rest of the time on the couch...drinking...watching tv and going to doctors to manage her various pill addictions. She's also had  bouts of whooping cough, bronchitis and pneumonia. That's why she thought she should quit. But she never follows through on anything. Couldn't stop drinking alcoholically...a few months after rehab. Won't listen when I ask her doctors to see about tapering her off the crap they prescribe for her. So to keep the peace...I ordered her nicotine filled vape sticks so I don't have to smell that crap around the apartment.

Addiction is selfish. Stronger than love. I hate this.

I still believe I will never used tobacco or nicotine ever again.

Hi there, you are very committed to not smoke.  This is very courageous in your environment.  You are presently giving a good example to not smoke to your wife.  She may follow.
