I am so obsessed with food but every time I look in the mirror it makes me feel so disappointed in myself. I did want lose weight but can't help to eat and eat more food, I already use all kinds of method on diet like keto, vegetarian, vegan etc. but it won’t work because of my eagerness to eat foods. Any personal experience or testimonial would be highly appreciated. Thanks

    Hello Divya275,

As you are cutting back or have quit smoking, cravings for food can be heightened as it is a natural replacement in place of a cigarette.  So don't be disappointed in yourself as you may be experiencing more withdrawal from making a few behavioural changes at once.  From a health standpoint, it is advised and best to concentrate on your smoking and deal with the weight loss later. Focusing on quitting and staying smoke-free and taking small steps to help manage your weight when you are ready.  You can consult with your health care professional for additional support.

As you are using some good methods already, perhaps there are some things you can distract with like hobbies and activities?  Members may have their experiences to share as well.

Let us know and we can also offer some more tips if you would like.

We feel for you divya275 and here to support you in your journey.

Divya175  focus on your quit first, and then focus on your weight loss.

    Hi Divya

Next time you look in the mirror, you congratulate yourself for coming as far as you have. Many people won't even attempt to quit because they think they can't. Actually i was one of them. Feeling guilty for smoking but wanting to at least do something to better my health, I started looking for the best nutritious foods. I decided on the Mediterranean diet  which is a way of eating, not a DIET.  Just make better food choices.  Drink plenty of water, make a soup to eat between meals. Make a delicious hummus with veggies to dip in it for lunch with slices of apple and cinnamon for dessert. Hummus is a high calorie protein, but very healthy and filling so you won't be tempted to eat empty calories. Oatmeal with fruit and nuts will kick start your metabolism . A salad, sweet potato, broccoli and fish or poultry would make an example of an excellent balanced dinner. Its the fats, dressings, margarine, sour cream etc than add quickly to the calorie count and thus the waistline.

Hopefully those tips will help you to eat better and not have you feeling like you have to go hungry , especially while you are under enough stress with giving up your crutch.  Don't worry about a few extra pounds. N othing is worse for your health than smoking!

Since,it is now another month since you posted you are well on your way to making this quit happen.  I am now 4 days smoke free, cold turkey .. and am feeling more energy already and  I assume you are too. Hopefully this means more activity and natural weight loss. Look at the bright side... if you were losing weight with no explanation... THAT  would be great cause for concern.  I have been taking ginger and turmeric spice which curb nicotine cravings as well as curb appetite.  Two weeks ago i never would have dreamt  to be smoke free AND a couple pounds lighter. Focus on the big picture and don't sweat the small stuff.
