So today is 30 days without a smoke. I would like to thank this site for the little emails you sent over the last month definitely helped with me quitting smoking. I was smoking at least 20 smokes a day and during the first few days of quitting it was horrible. No sugar coating here. Throughout day 3 I was very much under the conclusion that I was a smoker, to hell with it, just have a smoke but I didn’t. The only thing that got me through days 4-6 was not wanting to have to go through day 1-3 again if I had a smoke. So I got through and have not had a smoke for 30 days. It’s very hard but if I got through anyone can. It is important to note that I had tried 5 or 6 times since Christmas but failed each attempt. Just keep at it and you will quit also. Best of luck to everyone that’s quit or quitting and be safe during these difficult times. Thank you to this site again.

    Hi whitetaildreamer,

Wow, 30 days smoke free.  Good for you.  You should be really proud of yourself!

You're right.  It is really hard at the beginning, no question about it.  But who wants to go through that kind of hell again?  Once you get past those first few days, you might as well persevere so you don't have to experience that again.

I bet at this point, you are starting to reap the benefits, like breathing easier and not coughing as much.  And whitetaildreamer, it will get better and better with time.  Just wait until you can go to a restaurant again.  You will be able to relax in a way that you couldn't before, because you won't get those horrible cravings telling you to get out and have a smoke.  And travel?  It will be such a breeze because again, you have broken free from this addiction, and it won't be a big deal waiting for your flight at the airport, or taking a longer flight somewhere.  The freedom that comes with being a non-smoker is awesome.

Treat yourself to something nice, whitetaildreamer.  You deserve it.  And remember NOPE, Not One Puff Ever.

    Congrats whitetaildreamer!
30 days is a huge accomplishment and it is worth it! I am on day 51 now and have to admit that some days, especially if I have a few drinks, I really crave a smoke. My partner still smokes and I am actually surprized that I have been able to stay smoke-free despite his smoking more than a pack a day. I keep reminding myself that I don't want to die young, that I am terrified of getting cancer, and that my kids need me. It's mostly my kids that motivate me as I have kids with disabilities who will need support for the rest of their lives - and if I konk out early, who is going to care for them? The stress of having kids with disabilities is what drove me to smoke in the first place - a crutch to lean on... and I don't think it is a valid excuse anymore... I have to get out of my denial brain and remind myself how toxic smoking really is to the body, that we can't SEE the damage it does to the internal organs... but it is a risk I don't want to take anymore.  (Maybe it's my mid-life crisis, whatever the case, I know I need to keep going with the NOPE philosophy - Not One Puff Ever). Also,  knowing that I will be able to attend any work function (once this covid-19 thing has settled) and not have to sneak out is a nice thought. Keep up the effort, one day at a time. Cheers :0)
