I am happy to say that It has been one year since I have had a smoke. I did have 2 slips on day 2 of my quit, but got right back to my quit, as I knew if I didn't, I don't know how long it would have taken me to find the courage to try again.                                                                    Thanks to everyones input to this forum, as it really helps so much. I check into it almost daily and have learned ways to keep me on track when I thought I wouldn't make it! It also makes for good reading on those nights when I would wake up at 3 or 4 am and no chance of getting any sleep for awhile. Things are much better now, but I had times where it would have been so easy to start again, so I fought the addiction and feel like I have the upper hand. I also know that I cant feel too smug, and always keep my guard up in the back of my mind. NOPE, not one puff ever is what I must live by! And it gets easier every day, so hoping everyone is having a good day wherever you are in your smoke free journey.  m

And here i am at 3am, awake and checking out the site too...

Mari_m - CONGRATULATIONS ON ONE YEAR SMOKE FREE!!!!!!

Remember when getting to one month seemed like such a struggle, but getting to one year is about patience and dedication. Yes, we do need to keep on guard not to fall back into the addiction of smoking.

I bet you feel a ton better than you did a year ago.

Thanks atp for the words of encouragement, it means a lot! I chuckle to hear that other people are also checking this site at crazy times in the night. I tend to think I am the only one, and its nice to know I am not alone in this roller coaster journey of quitting smoking!!  I do feel so much better physically, but emotionally is taking longer. I catch myself feeling sad when I see people smoke, and have to mentally turn that negative into a positive thought. Isn't that something, as there are so many good things about quitting, like being be able to breathe easier, feeling proud to be a non smoker, more energy and Money!! Just proves once again how strong this addiction can be. So we have had to learn how to be stronger. I didn't really think I had enough willpower to see this through, so I just had to keep pushing myself  ahead one day, sometimes one hour at a time. The 4 Ds helped a lot and SHL too.  I remember when you joined also, and thats coming right up, I am as excited for you and anyone else standing up to this addiction!  I read a post a while ago that said we are a courageous bunch, and I wholeheartedly agree. We can do this!!

I was at a construction site meeting today, and being a nice day we stood around outside. And everyone around me was smoking. I was the only one not smoking!
I used to get triggered, and I have had a lot of moments of just wanting to have a smoke. Habit.
Last time was late September while Salmon fishing. I used to always stand in the river with my rod and a smoke, usually a cigarello. Felt weird not having a smoke.

Nice thing is that on these colder mornings as i drive off to work my van warms up a lot better since the window is not cracked open to let the smoke out.

January 01 will by my anniversary....
