I would really like to smoke.  But I must remind myself that I am much happier being an ex-smoker.  These intense battles will get easier, and I can't give in to the nicotine monster.  I shall take things one minute at a time.

    Good morning Franny,

It sounds like you have noticed some positive changes since you quit smoking and it is great that you remind yourself of that. Stay positive and one craving at a time.

What type of distractions are you using? Have you been celebrating your milestones?

Have a nice smoke-free day everyone!

    Valerie

As well as being a nicotine slave, I was an addict/alcoholic for 10 years.  I am sober now 2 years and doing my best to quit smoking.  I am just now figuring who I am and what I enjoy so I don't have many distractions.  I listen to the song of the serenity prayer and wait for the cravings to pass.  I will definitely celebrate my 1 month of being smoke free.

    Good Morning franny,

Those skills you used to get sober will surely be of use as you quit smoking! Great to hear that you are in the process of figuring out who you are and what you like, finding healthy distractions can be a real boost to your quit.

    Hi Franny,
You can do it!  It sounds like you're in a hard period, but it won't last.  It will go away and then you'll see your inner resource for tolerating it.  Or you can use a nicorette gum or something to ease through this difficult bit.  I was like this for about 6 days and it hasn't come back that hard since.
    Congratulations!

    Hello the quitter,

Congratulations for being smoke-free for 7 weeks!

Regarding your cravings being strong, this is challenging.  Mental connections can take longer time.  A change in lifestyle can take up to 3 months to get comfortable with.  You say that you feel the urge all the time.  Do you find it is stress, boredom or something else?

    Hi th quitter,
I'm in my 7th week too, and having a rough day because I must have a virus, very sore throat and ear for 4 days now.  I just logged on because I'm so grumpy today and I ache everywhere.  I'm not even having a craving, but I'm having urges to smoke just to retaliate, crazy eh?  I'm also starving as I skipped breakfast and lunch which is making me crazy now.  I was nuts to go to work today, and suffered for it, so there's that too.  I booked tomorrow off though, just need my ear to stop hurting, so will go to see my Doctor tomorrow but I doubt it's bacterial, which means tolerating it some more.  I still think of smoking throughout the day, but my cravings are minimum.  I'm just having a horrible day and want to puff and puff and fume my anger.  That won't make me better, though.  I went to pick up some advil and bought another pack of Nicarette Gum and Step 2 Patches, but I'll wait to reduce until I'm over all of these irritating things today.  I'm going nuts to sabotage it, first time I've been moody since I quit, so "Yes!" to what Marianne said - it's stress for me today.

HI Ocean - sorry to hear you're feeling crummy and trying to stay quit at the same time. So glad to hear you can take some time off from work to get well, get rest, and get better!
Its common to want to smoke when you're feeling stressed, grumpy, or both, but you're right: it won't change a thing.
What can you do tomorrow for some self-care? Its so important, Ocean, to make this time for yourself.
Thinking of you and hoping for a better day tomorrow,
    Sarah

    Hi Franny,

I am so happy for you!  Congratulations on you being smoke free for over one whole month now!  Yippee!  You are really getting it done!

You have a lot to be proud of, Franny.  I hope you are giving yourself enough credit.  What you have achieved, and are still achieving, is incredible.  You go, girl!!!
