As the saying goes, never stop trying to quit. This is my about my 10th quit. Every time I am hoping this will be the time for my forever quit. My quits last anywhere from 2 weeks to 7 months. This last time, I had been smoking since August. I have been a long term smoker, I started at 12 and am now 37.
Tonight at 8pm, it will be 8 days smoke free. I am using champix to assist me. I have been trying to think about what I can do differently so this will really be my last quit... cause quitting all the time over and over again is torture! So my goals this time around are to be accountable to this forum and to take my champix until 12 weeks. I usually quit on my own with little to no support. I also will only use medication for a couple weeks or go cold turkey.
The problem with my lack of support is that I am a closet smoker. I am so embarrassed of this disgusting habit. It does not match my lifestyle being a nurse and a regular CrossFitter. So no one really knew.
I am hoping to get to know many of you and ride this journey together.
Here is to my last quit!

    Hello Missy05,

A true saying!  Your doing some important reflection.  You have key strategies in place around support and using champix.

You took an amazing step to open up to this community so commend yourself.

Anything you would like to start talking about?  Any triggers you know are challenging for you?

We are so glad you have joined and looking forward to hearing more of your journey as you plan your final quit!

    Hi Missy05,

I can understand why you were a closet smoker.  I was so embarrassed by my smoking, I felt really bad about myself.  I used to see stories about little kids with cancer and I thought, "They have done absolutely nothing to deserve this, yet here I am, smoking, taking my health for granted."  I always carried breath strips because I knew I had smoke breath.  And my clothes smelled of smoke.  And I felt bad about subjecting other people to second hand smoke.

You know what, Missy?  It was hard, but I did it.  I quit a year ago, and I never went back to it.  I just said enough is enough.  There comes a point where you just have to get really tough with yourself and say, "I am serious about my quit and I am going to live the rest of my life as a non-smoker."  That is not always easy to do, but it is soooo worth it.

Tell yourself you are going to live by NOPE - Not One Puff Ever.  If you do that, you will be fine.

Yep, can relate. I never smoked at work. I hid it from my kids. I too was so embarrassed by the habit so I think that is one thing that has kind of helped. I didn't have to break the habit at work or in certain situations. Doesn't matter how I "was" what matters in how I am now. I am 2 weeks smoke free and feeling great. You will do this.

Dear, congrats in 8 day's smoke free, you can do this.

You are not the only one who quit so many times, I been trying to quit for last about 3 years and quit so many times and relapse more that I can not remember, until I realize that I was training me to quit. So, this last time I am free finally, yes I need support and I am not going to lie to you I miss smoking sometimes but I have learn how to deal with that before fail into the crave.
The key is to be prepare and get as much help you can get!

You can do it, Have fun doing it, be kind with your self you deserve to be free!

Thank you for all your responces! And you are so right when you say that at some point you just have to say ‘enough is enough’. Today was a good day. I am breathing easier especially during my workouts and feeling better already. It’s amazing how fast our bodies start to repair the damage done from smoking. I do notice I am munching a bit more and am constipated, lol. However, I am sure it’s all temporary. Have a great night all!

So happy to hear you made the decision to be smoke free. As a recycled quitter, I know that it’s one of the hardest things one will do. But as we both know, it’s so worth it and that is why we keep trying. Keep up the good fight. Get through these next few days. Tonight will be day 10 and I am feeling better each day! Keep posting!

    Hi Eddie,

Congratulations on your decision to leave smoking behind. It is a tough addiction to beat and I know I tried many times to quit myself before I finally quit for good. Many have kicked the habit for good and you can too! I hope you have a solid quit plan in place. Are you using NRT gum, lozenges or patches?

Coming to the forums to read about others' successes helps me a lot. You can also call the hotline number for support 1-877-513-5333

Wishing you every success with your quit!

    Hello everyone,

This is exactly what we are here for; to support each other in a safe environment without judgement. Sometimes we are worried about how others will react to our smoking or to our quits. Having a safe space to share means a lot.
