I've been prescribed Varenicline Tartrate Tablets, and after reading the side effects I'm scared to take them.  Has anyone taken them to help them stop smoking.  The patch just did not work for me.

Janeta, welcome to our forums! I'm guessing that there are forum members who have used or are using Varenicline but were prescribed it under the brand name Champix, so might not be familiar with it under the other name.

If it helps to know, most people who use Varenicline have no side effects, or brief ones. If there are side-effects, they often can be managed by adjusting the dosage, with no lessening of how effective the medication is overall.

That said, there is less of a chance of side effects with a nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), and there are other types of NRT other than the patch (as you probably know). Some folks have good success using "patch plus," which is the patch along with another quit aid (such nicotine lozenges or oral spray) to get a strong enough dosage and have some extra help through harder cravings. A pharmacist could advise on dosages, etc. if you think that you might be more comfortable with something other than Varenicline.
