Two months smoke free and this is my first post. Still struggling but hanging in. Cravings increase each time I reduce the nicotine patch strength. Took up knitting again after many years it has helped.

    Hi Elizabeth,

First, please let me congratulate you on two months smoke free.  That is an amazing accomplishment, and you should be really proud of yourself!

Starting to knit again is a great idea.  It will help to keep your mind off of it.  When I was trying to quit, I kept myself as busy as possible.  I absolutely threw myself into work at my job.  And when I came home, I went out a few times a week, for no particular reason other than to keep myself busy.  I did more cooking which involved washing and chopping veggies, again to keep myself busy, and I played hidden object games on my computer, anything to keep myself distracted.  And it really helped.

You can do this, Elizabeth.  I know it's hard, but it's not impossible.  I used to think, other people quit, so why can't I?  Are they special? Gifted? Smarter than I am?  Stronger than I am?  And I realized that no, they are not.  They were just committed enough to give it their absolute all, because they were truly ready to quit and wanted to make it happen.  So I said, I can do that too. And I did.  And you can do it, too.

I'm glad you reached out for support.  I understand your struggles, and your determination.  I believe in you, Elizabeth.  Hang in there, you can do this.  Keep taking it one step at a time.  I don't care if you have to take it one half hour at a time.  It is worth it, and you are definitely worth it.  You will love finally being free of this horrible addiction.  Set yourself free.  You will reap the benefits!

    Good Morning eatherton

Congrats in 2 months free, you need to distract your self from the crave when they come. so you can hold it and it will go away!

However if you feel not confident, you may continue with support a bit longer.

    I use the Inhaler when I need it, I quit Last June7/15 3 pak's a day.

Is all in our mind, you can do this.

    One day at the time!

    Good Afternoon eatherton,

Congrats on your 2 month milestone and welcome to SHO!

Glad to hear that you are hanging in there , knitting a great diversion/distraction from the cravings, and you end up with something beautiful. Is there any other distraction that is helping?

Know that we are here for you, feel free to drop in anytime with questions, concerns or just to let us know how you are doing!

    Hello Elizabeth

Congrats on 2 month smoke free.  I'm just over 3 months.
I tried the patch and discovered it didn't work for me,  Champix was my aid!  I hope you can find your happy medium soon!
Agreed,  staying busy with hands helps keep hands distracted and mind busy!
    Welcome welcome
