    Hey all.

Been very serious in tjought the past few months quitting cold turkey with smoking. Issues are i love it minus the smell and attitude i get from needing one when bei g social plua my bf doesn't smoke and as much as he understands my smoking stubbornness i hate its become a topic out of concern from him which is very real considering my high blood pressure has been more of an issue then ive let on but im serious amd stressed cuz i have spoken to friends and moat common thing they jave expressed is moods big time during tje first week. Do i need to isolate for a whole week? Seriously considering it only cuz when i have been low on finds and needed to ask and borrow money for smokes ita been a very high emotional situation which i have always recognized but had no control over. Anyway juat looking for some real.feed back on tips going cold turkey and being extremely concerned about my moods i may experience. I already know i will be ok not substituting food cuz the thought of getting fat is already a motivation of what not to do. Already trying to get covid weight off as it is lol about 10-15 id be comfortable with for now but anyway i am extremely stubborn but also a very self doubting person who.struggles sith believing in ones self and listening to anyone and myself taht it is possible. You could say sith tjis long tome addiction i know i will bw needy and sp much focus on boosting me up to believe in myself. The struggle is real and the determination is sincere and honest. I need help and a huge kick.in the ass with kid gloves and lots of attention to get through the worst part of the few beginning weeks that im told are the worst. But i want this! For me and my very concerning heath issues for my partner to show him that by choosing me i.will always believe im.worth the care and time
. he has expressed more then a few  ttimes he wants a.partner that cares for themselves and takes care of any health conditions or concerns while enjoying life but not adding bad things to shorten my life that he wamts to live out with. I get it. Hes healthy and very aware of his nutrient and very active and fit. I am not the match with that with him. As much as i want to be more healthy and aleays open minded to any amd all his.suggestions i also indulge more then him cuz i fight with the idea of anyone telling what to d even though i appreciate everything he brings to tbe table. I guess i wamt to.prive to myself that i can actually make really good choices in changing things im capable of and for a better future feeling good and being healthy for both of our futures cuz i.see his very concerned ways of letting me know in maybe not the best way, of him saying he wants me around a long time and pointing out the factors that are changeable and could possibly eliminate other issues i already have. Anyway its all out of love i know. I just bate that im a brat and struggling with the fight and positive route and successful one that might i add that i need to overcome the fear and stress of struggling with being a nightmare yhe fitst few weeks. Tell me please!!! Did staying away from everything and everyone help the horrible mood swings. Sorry for the novel. Just really need advice from.anyone who.has done cold turkey amd fighting with thete own stubborn ass

    Hi bernvang,

Thank you for pouring your thoughts into this post. I admire how you go over your pros and cons.

Regarding spending the first week of the quit alone; do what you think will work best for you. There is no right or wrong answer. If you are worried about what you may say to others, let them know ahead of time not to take it personally as your body goes through this difficult time. It does sound like he supports you to quit, so he may accept the mood swings, as long as they are from withdrawal.

    Best,

    Jenna Lee

I too had been thinking of quitting for a long time, then I did it this past Monday. I had a health scare, sounds like you have one too. From past attempts, I knew that moodiness, anger, sadness, cravings, tiredness, etc. were on the horizon.
Here's what has helped me so far. I use the patch. On the first day, packed a lunch of clementines, apples, leftover pizza (thankfully in the fridge), V8 tins & a giant bag of Hersey kisses (Xmas shopping victim). I did a similar lunch each day, minus the Hersey kisses, but the point is, alot of foods that keep my hands busy.
I told my family and friends. People have cheered me on. They check in by text.
I downloaded a quit smoking app called SmokeQuitter. I look at it A LOT. I Google and read about quitting, especially when I want to smoke. I think of how awful it would be to do the first few days again when I'm tempted.
It is a struggle. The side effects happen. It is not easy. I'm looking forward to not being consumed by the thought of smoking. You can do it too. Good luck to me and you :)

Hey! I am in the the quitting process myself. I know what has worked in the past was to cut back. I have never been a heavy smoker maybe 1/2 pack per day and in the last few days I am down to 3 a day. I just cannot give up that one first thing in the morning YET. I honestly am not feeling too great. Very anxious, tired and feel like I am missing something does that make sense. Anyhow, just looking for somewhere to vent.

    Hi Kathyax,
I quit over 3 weeks ago and can totally relate to how you are feeling.
The first week was really difficult.  I felt sad and tired all the time and I too felt like I was missing something.  I still think of smoking all the time but I don't feel nearly as bad as I did that first week.  I hope to never smoke again as I never want to feel that way again.
You should be proud of yourself for taking the step even to cut down.  That takes a lot of effort and detrmination.
Keep up the great work! We both can do this!

    Hi kathyax,

Reflecting back on what works for us in past attempts is key in helping us to be more successful next time we quit, hats off too you that you are doing that, as well as cutting back on your cigarette intake! Cutting back is hard but you are doing it! And that first cigarette in the morning is tough! Patience is the key is what I heard one wise person share on this site, be patient with yourself, you are definitely putting the effort into your quit. Keep it up!
