Hi marion777,
You have made the right decision. It is time to quit. And you have come to the right place for support. There is a lot of good info on this site. Try to read through some of the suggestions, because that will help you to prepare for your quit. The more prepared you are, the more likely you are to be successful in your quit.
You're right, marion777, it's going to be hard to quit. But there are things you can do to help. You can delay having a cig. You can distract yourself so that you don't dwell on the cravings. You can drink lots of water which will help to remove the toxins from your body. And you can write a list of all the reasons why you want to quit and keep it somewhere where you can read it when you need to.
Do you plan to use any NRts such as the patch, or Champix? If so, you might want to read some of the posts here from people who have used them. The nice thing is that these days, we have products to help us quit. And if we choose to do it cold turkey, there are sites like this one to help us get through it without NRTs.
I remember all too well when I was told, "Just quit", like it was just that easy, no problem. Well, what a farce. Not only was that unhelpful, but those same people also made me feel bad about myself, which actually made me want to smoke more. Thankfully, things are changing, and that is what this site is all about.
I hope you keep in touch and keep posting, because we will all try to help. We are all fighting the same addiction, and together, we will be triumphant. I truly believe that.
