    Hello Everyone!

Deciding to quit smoking is a significant step and sometimes it can feel overwhelming. One of the most important decisions you can make is choosing your quit date. This date sets the stage for your journey to becoming smoke-free.

When selecting your quit date, think about what suits you best. Do you prefer a bustling day filled with distractions, or would a quieter day allow you to focus on self-care? Each person's journey is so unique, so take some time to reflect on what timing would work for you.

As you prepare for this transition, consider what resources or support you might need in place. Whether it's support from friends and family, smoking cessation aids, or simply creating a plan for managing cravings and triggers, having a strategy can make a big difference.

Feel free to share your thoughts! What date are you considering and what factors are influencing your decision?

I’ve set my quit date - Sept. 9. Have been decreasing my cigarette intake but am very nervous. My hope is that the forum will be a ‘lifeline’ so to speak. My spouse does not smoke. I did quit for almost 3 years about 10 years ago but … feel off the proverbial wagon.
I am trying to focus on the positive aspects of quitting cold turkey on Sept. 9th (health, of course, smell (won’t need to worry about smelling of cigarettes), teeth brushing won’t be as relentless, I’ve never smoked indoors so freezing in the winter not be an issue, also social acceptance, family members being proud).
I’ve decreased my intake a bit in past 2 weeks but I’m unsure if that will prepare me fully. My last quit was cold turkey & it was really HARD! I expect this to be equally challenging but I’m determined so… here I am everyone!! Hi!

    Hi cleo,

Congratulations on setting your new quit date and for dropping by to share your story! Welcome to the community forum!

Sounds like you have had some success with quitting smoking in the past (3 years smoke free is significant!) and you are ready to try again. You have already made some wonderful progress reducing your smoking before your quit date. This is a solid approach, and it will give your body some time to adjust to lower levels of nicotine which will hopefully help lessen cravings and any symptoms of cravings.

You have many positive reasons for wanting to be smoke free and you are being so proactive connecting here for support. I hope that you find some helpful tips and strategies and some additional encouragement and motivation.

Wishing you the best of luck on your new quit journey!

    Warm regards,
    Karen, Quit Coach
